Fred Huggins Obituary

On Monday June 9th, Fred N. Huggins, beloved father, son and brother passed away suddenly at the age of 47. All who knew and loved Fred will forever remember him for his quick wit, gregarious nature and unending passion and dedication to his work. He was born in Orofino Idaho, November 15, 1966. In 1980 he moved to Palmer Alaska with his family. He was raised and remained in the Mat-Su Valley. As a student at Palmer High School , Fred was active on the wrestling team, and choir, and even as a member of the Drama Team, where he had the audience roaring at his performance in "The Butler Did It" in his Junior year. Upon graduating in 1985, Fred was excited to enlist in the US Navy, where he intended to follow in his father's footsteps and work on submarines. After an honorable discharge for medical reasons, Fred returned home to Alaska and immediately found a passion for cooking that would set the stage for the next 30 years of his life. After several years cooking in local restaurants, Fred was proud to join the Doyon Universal family where he perfected his craft and enjoyed feeding tens of thousands of people in camps all over Alaska and the United States over the next 20 years. During those years Fred was proud to become a father, when his son Taylor Huggins was born, whom he loved with all his heart .

Fred was passionate about life, his work and his family and he loved the Lord. Fred had the heart of a lion and truly just loved bringing joy to others through his food, his laughter, the quilts that he loved to make and the best bear hugs ever.

Fred is proceeded in death by his ancestors, and he is survived by his mother, son, siblings, and numerous nieces and nephews in Alaska, as well as by family in Wyoming, Washington and Idaho.

It is requested in lieu of flowers to the mourning family, that they be sent in Fred's honor to someone whose day they will brighten. Fred would delight in knowing that bouquets of flowers might be unexpectedly popping up all over.

A service will be held at the Wasilla Lake Church of the Nazarene, 2001 E. Palmer -Wasilla Highway, Wasilla on Tuesday June 17th at 4 p.m., with a BBQ potluck reception following, at 5361 E. Pamela Drive, Wasilla. All are welcome and encouraged to come and share memories of our beloved brother.

A memorial fund has been set up at First National Bank of Alaska under Huggins Up North. Valley Funeral Home cared for arrangements.
