George W. Doty

1946 - 2016

George W. Doty Sr., 69, passed away on June 25, 2016, at Alaska Regional Hospital. George was born on Nov. 9, 1946, in Middletown, N.Y. Anchorage, Alaska, has been his home for the last 26 years; prior to moving to Alaska, he spent years in Spokane, Wash., and Lincoln, Vt. He graduated from Minisink Valley High in 1964, and received his Bachelor of Arts in Business from Burlington College in 1987. He was a U.S. Army Veteran who served from 1964-1968. After the service he was a denture technician in Middletown, N.Y., before moving to Spokane, Wash. where he was a U.S. Postal Server worker from 1976-1982. He then moved back east to Lincoln, Vt., and worked for the towns of Lincoln and Charlotte, Vt., in zoning and planning. He was an NRA Benefactor, Golden Eagle Member, a strong 2nd Amendment supporter, NTEU Executive Vice President and Chief Steward. George was also an avid gardener, hunter, fisherman and genealogy researcher. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Doty; children, Rachel Mower, Heather Gerhardt and George Doty Jr.; grandchildren, Jacob, Luke and Audrey Gerhardt and Joshua and Noah Mower; siblings, Irene McNear, Frank Doty, Donald Doty, Ellen Rice and Patrick Doty; and many nieces and nephews.
