George Tuthill Obituary

Mr. George "Jerry" Tuthill, 77 years of age died peacefully on June 3, 2013 at Providence Medical Center, Seward, Alaska.

A memorial for Jerry will be held after noon on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at the Branson Pavilion at the Waterfront Park in Seward. For further information, you may call the Seward Fire Department at (907) 224-3445.

Jerry was born on March 31, 1936 to proud parents, George E. and H. Ione (Shultz) in Tacoma, Washington. After completion of his education, Jerry enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corp, and proudly served his country.

Jerry had an interesting and active career in Seward, and was employed in several positions. He was a Merchant Marine, as well as a commercial fisherman. Jerry was a skilled and talented mechanic and retired from the City of Seward, Department of Public Works.

Jerry devoted his time and talents in performing volunteer work for his community. He spent over forty years, and numerous hours volunteering as an Emergency Medical Responder with the Seward Volunteer Ambulance.

In addition, Jerry also served over thirteen years as a respected member of the Bear Creek Volunteer Fire Department. Jerry was especially proud of his capacity of serving as an engineer for the Seward Fire Department.

Among his many hobbies, Jerry especially enjoyed trapping with his friend, Bill Perdue, reading, and scuba diving in Resurrection Bay, and visiting with his many friends, and acquaintances.

Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved wife of over forty years, April Mae (Hanson) Tuthill; parents, George and Ione Tuthill; and brother, Ed "Stub" Tuthill. His surviving relatives include sister, Sherry Hetzler of Glendale, Oregon; and brother, Steve Tuthill of Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
