Gilbert LeBlanc Obituary

Funeral services will be celebrated for Mr. Gilbert Joseph LeBlanc, Sr., age 75, at 1:00 pm on Friday, January 6, 2017 at Evangeline Funeral Homes, Inc. of Delcambre. Deacon Russell Hayes will officiate. Interment will be held privately at a later date.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home from 2:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Thursday with a rosary being prayed at 7:00 pm. The funeral home will reopen at 9:00 am on Friday until the service time.

A native of Delcambre and resident of New Iberia, Gilbert passed away on Friday, December 30, 2016 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

Born on November 22, 1941 to the late Saul LeBlanc, Sr. and the late Valla Boudreaux LeBlanc, Gilbert was one of nine children. He worked for the Iberia Parish Government as a machine operator for over thirty years. After his retirement in 2001, Gilbert passed the time by working during cane season driving tractors and helping out the farmers. In his earlier days, Gilbert greatly enjoyed hunting and later fishing. He would often be found with a line in the water. Gilbert loved people and knew everyone's name. He would always meet with his buddies for coffee at the Texaco in Delcambre or the Chevron in New Iberia. If you could not find him at one, he would most likely be at the other. Gilbert also enjoyed watching western movies and wrestling. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who adored his grandchildren and loved to spoil them. He will be truly and deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Barbara Landry LeBlanc; son, Gilbert LeBlanc, Jr. and wife Iris of New Iberia; daughter, Jennifer LeBlanc and fiancé T.J. of Arnaudville; grandchildren, Trenton Thibodeaux, Jase Thibodeaux, Gavin Gulczewski, Ryder LeBlanc, and Paisley LeBlanc; brothers, Saul LeBlanc, Jr., Wilbert LeBlanc, and Raynold LeBlanc; and sisters, Ethel Duhon, Ramona Romero, and Velma LeBlanc.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Saul Sr. and Valla Boudreaux LeBlanc; sister, Anna Lee Sonnier; brother, Julius "Mule" LeBlanc, Sr.; and sister-in-law, Laura Labit.
