Harold Ogles Obituary

Anchorage resident Harold Ogles, 73, died April 27, 2008, in Anchorage.
Visitation will be from noon until 1 p.m. Friday, with a service at 1 p.m., at Anchorage Funeral Home & Crematory, 1800 Dare Ave.
Harold was born May 22, 1934, in Murray County, Ga., one of seven children of Roscoe and Grace Ogles.
After marrying and living many years in Fort Myers, Fla., Harold and his family moved to Anchorage in 1976. He held positions at Alaska Regional Hospital and Western Airlines and retired from the Anchorage School District in 2002.
Harold enjoyed tinkering with anything that was broken and outdoor activities such as fishing on the Kenai River and gardening. Everyone looked forward to his beautiful flowerbeds and lettuces every spring. He also enjoyed meals and telling jokes at local restaurants with his family and friends. If he missed a meal, the staff would often check on him to make sure he was OK.
Harold was a beloved father and grandfather who leaves behind his children, James Ogles of Gainesville, Fla., Tim "Scott" Ogles and Emily Woodhead, both of Anchorage, Mary Smith of Marysville, Wash., and Clay Ogles of Ashville, Ohio; grandchildren, Elliot Ogles, Alex Woodhead, Jennifer Smith, Kimberly Smith, Max Ogles and Sidney Ogles; and brothers and sisters, Sarah Ogles and Beatrice Grooms of Murray County, Agnes Ogles and Joe Ogles of Whitfield County, Ga., and Glenn Ogles of Gilmer County, Ga.
In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his sister, Georgia Ogles.

I met him very few times. However, in the times I met him he was strong, he and he was a fighter. He fought the good fight, and passed away peacefully. He will be greatly missed by his friends and his family.

I'm going to play some Johnny Cash for him tonight, he seems like he'd like it.

Harold was a classmate of mine at Murray County High School and a good friend. It was really good to see him at our last class reunion. We were in the Class of 1954. His family has my sympathies, including the ones who still live in the North Ga. area.
