Jack Scott Obituary

Jack Charles Scott passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 3, 2017, in Wasilla, Alaska. He was 70 years young. Jack was born on Nov. 21, 1946, to Herbert and Mary Scott in Grand Rapids, Mich., and raised in Cannonsburg, Mich. Jack's mother Mary passed away when Jack was very young and was raised by his father, Herbert, and grandmother, Anna Scott.
Jack resided in Michigan, Wyoming, California, and finally settled in Alaska in 1987 working in the oilfields, a position he enjoyed for several years, until an illness forced him to retire from the oilfield work. He worked construction while learning the field of substance abuse addiction/assessments and spent rewarding years assisting others on their road to recovery. He was also a Data Input Specialist with Cook Inlet Tribal Council. While Jack enjoyed all of the positions he held over the years, finding reward in each and every one, it was at CITC that he found the warmth and compassion of true friendship.
Jack was a kind, gentle man always willing to stop and help any person in need. He battled cancer nine times, surviving each one, never complaining, always smiling, joking and taking care of his family. He never knew the meaning of the word "stranger" and would spend time talking and telling stories to everyone whose path he crossed, no matter where he may have been at the time. He was loved by many and liked by all. There is so much that could be said about Jack, he loved the Lord and read his Bible daily, he loved all of God's creatures and fed them abundantly, quiet time on the river, walking his dogs, spending time with his grandchildren, watching football and spending time with family. Jack was excited to watch his daughter, Kimberley, graduate with her Doctorate, bragging to anyone who would listen and showing off the pictures. Prior to her changing vocations, he walked the halls of the University of Washington meeting Heather's friends and cooking his famous chili for them. Jack could be counted on to be there for each of his children: he loved and was proud of each one of them and they loved him. He will be missed, with a huge void in every heart of every person who loved him. He was definitely one of a kind. Jack was told he was going to be a great-grandfather and counted the months to days until she blessed his life with her birth. Jack's life goal became to see Avery's first birthday, as well as spending time this summer showing his daughter, Kimberley, why he loved Alaska so much.
Jack is survived by his life partner of 30 years, Ramona Christensen; and the children they raised together, Cheri Hall, Heather Hall and Anthony Hall; grandchildren, Emily Herrel (Ben), Hailey and Anthony Jr.; great-granddaughter and namesake, Avery Kay Jackson Stanford; his brother, Paul Scott (Carolyn); daughter, Kimberley Barker (Greg); grandchildren, Schuler, Madeleine and Bennett; nephews, Mark and Michael; and nieces, Nancy and Laurie. Jack also leaves from Ramona's family nieces, Angelique and Elaine; and nephews, Billy and Richard. Jack also had many great-nephews and great-nieces, as well as friends too numerous to name, with the exception of David Wasson, who assisted him during his many illnesses and was the definition of a true friend.
Jack is predeceased by his father, Herbert; mother, Mary; and grandmother, Anna Scott.
Funeral Services for Jack will be held on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017, at 12 p.m., at Legacy Heritage Chapel, 1015 South Check Street in Wasilla. Burial will follow the service at Wasilla Cemetery. A gathering for friends and family will follow immediately after the burial. Call 907-355-2083 for directions. A celebration of Jack's life will follow in the spring for friends and family who reside outside of Alaska and were unable attend at this time: all who knew Jack will be welcome to attend to share their memories and stories.
