James Devine Obituary

Anchorage and Holmen, Wis., resident James A. "Jimmy" Devine, 52, died Dec. 29, 2009, in Anchorage.

A celebration of Jimmy's life will be at 5 p.m. today at the Crossroads Lounge, 1402 Gambell St. The family would like to thank Jeff and Bonnie Thurston, Bill Blake and Marti Newton.

Jimmy was born April 26, 1957, in Roswell, N.M., to Richard and Arliss (Allendorf) Devine.

His family wrote: "After living in Japan, Okinawa, New Jersey and Puerto Rico (where Jimmy excelled in baseball and was sought after by Puerto Rico teams to play winter ball), the family settled in Holmen, Wis., where Jimmy graduated from high school in 1975."

In 1980, he moved to Alaska, where he would work several jobs before working on the North Slope (Prudhoe Bay) for many years.

"He loved Alaska, the last frontier," his family wrote. "He loved to hunt and fish here. He was a hard worker and a generous and gentle soul. Jimmy was liked by anyone who met him."

He is survived by two brothers, Tom (Mary Jane) Devine of Bloomington, Minn., and Doug (Mary) of Holmen; a nephew, Travis and a niece, Trisha, both of Bloomington; two nieces, Casey (Ruben) Anderson of Holmen and Lindsay (Jeron) Moe of LaCrosse, Wis.; a grandniece, Lola Moe; and Jimmy's good friends in Anchorage, Jeff and Bonnie Thurston, Bill Blake and Marti Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Robert and Ronald.

Jimmy was my little ADHD bother who loved to hunt and fish and live life. Since he passed I have met many of his friends who have reinforced what his family has always known and loved about him. He was a super athlete, sportsman and hard worker and the most loyal friend or brother anyone could ask for. We miss you bro.

I just heard oabout Jim's passing. It's heartwarming to know he didn't change after high school. He was a very close friend of my brother Cliff Parker. I loved his sense of humor and his loving personality. I was a friend of his brother Ron, so I got to see him alot and he will be greatly missed. {Harold... Class of 73 Holmen, Wisconsin}

Integrity, honest, hard worker,friend, always have your back. These things we knew about Jimmy, but it is very comforting to hear them from co-workers, friends, and aquaintances. If people say these things after your gone, then you have lived a righteous life. We'll miss you so much brother, I hope the Salmon are running up there in Heaven. God Bless........ and God Speed..... Love Doug

I have very fond memories of Jim Devine. He was a solid guy and a good friend. Jim, Bill Blake, and I shared many outdoor experiences in Alaska in the mid eighties. He was a man you could always trust. His integrity and character were flawless. I look back on the times he, Bill, and I spent together with great fondness. I wish to offer my condolences to his family on his unfortunate passing. Jimmie, you went too soon. Cliff Bishop Olympia, Wa.

Jimmie was a good guy who I have not seen in some time. But I always hoped that someday I would walk into the Long Branch and see him sitting on a stool with a cool one, smiling and enjoying the moment. Jim was one of the best and I will miss him.

I've know Jimmy for years now while working in Prudhoe Bay. What a hell of a guy and worker. There was nothing he wouldn't do for you. When coming to our warehouse you would find him bent over checking in Norcon's freight and let me tell you if one thing was wrong you could bet he would get with you. He wanted to ensure all material was correct for the job at hand. I will miss his laugh and his smile @ CPAD.
God Bless
