James Lucas Moren

1975 - 2016

The life of James Lucas Moren, came to a sudden, violent end in the early hours of Dec. 24, 2016. Lucas was a life-long Alaskan, born in Anchorage on July 12, 1975. He was raised in Anchorage, Talkeetna and Wasilla, but his home and heart for years were the downtown Anchorage and Government Hill area.
Lucas was known and loved by many of the downtown folks, from the shop owners to the homeless, as a helpful, kind person who always was good to the people around him. The most often used word to describe Lucas in social media was "compassionate." He loved being part of the downtown Anchorage aura. He was a culinary artist, loved travel and adventures from bungee jumping to zip-lines, skiing at Alyeska and white-water rafting.
He is preceded in death by his father, Billie Edward "Woody" Moren; all of his grandparents, including pioneer Alaskans, Harriet and Art Hansen; Uncle Cat-Daddy Johnson; his cousin, Jamie Moren; and his never-got-to-be stepfather and friend, Chris Rogers Sr.
He is survived by his mother, Elann "Lennie" Moren; his brother by spilled blood, Jeremy and wife Ernestine Rogers with children, Roric and Everly; uncle Jan and Patsy Hansen with cousins, Tessa, Miles, Saddie, Todd, Lisa and Niles; aunt, Gina Hansen; uncle, Walt and Mary Rice with cousins, Jessie and Ashley; in Texas, uncle Jimmy and Cynthia Moren with cousins, Cody and Katie; aunt, Jodie Johnson with cousins, Deedee, Bobby and Stephanie; aunt, Jeannie Moren with cousins, Jennifer and Jeannie; and his many friends. He will be greatly missed.
A celebration of Lucas' life is set for Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, at 420 West 3rd Avenue, from 1 p.m. to 4:20 p.m. This ceremony will be open to the public and all who knew him are invited.
