Jeremy Amouak Obituary

A Chico CA accident claimed former Alaskan Jeremy Ralph Amouak, 36, born Dec 18, 1975 in Anchorage to Mary Houlahan and Ralph Amouak. With parents young Ralphie visited his grandparents in Fairbanks, the late Olga and Oliver Amouak, famous Native dancers, cultural ambassadors for Alaska Airlines; Oliver's image graces their planes.

A proud Yupik Alaska Native, Ralphie was in CITC Johnson O'Malley Program. With parental cooperation he spent most of his youth in Eagle River with foster dad Gene Augustine. Ralph embraced sports, music, and education; loved nature, respected the privilege to harvest wildlife, and visited with his sisters. Foster mom Ann Stockman took special interest throughout Ralph's life. An active scout in 1988 he spent 2 weeks at Camp Pupukea on Oahu. Ralph excelled in skiing and soccer through high school. With the Russian Club in 1992 he visited Moscow and St. Petersburg, and graduated from Chugiak High School in 1994.

He attended MSU in 1994, then going by his first name, Jeremy's free spirit led to travel, learning skills and starting a family. In 2002 he graduated from Southwest Indian Polytechnic Institute in NM; and briefly attended the Haskell Indian Nations University in KS. Native American issues became Jeremy's passion along with protecting sacred sites; including the spiritually important Sogorea Te site. Jeremy taught rooftop gardening for the Occupy Movement, NYC. He returned to AK in summer 2009 painting in Fairbanks, assisted his father's return to AK, then lived and garden near Chico, CA.

Jeremy Ralph is survived by daughter Violet of Kansas City MO; father Ralph of Anchorage; sisters Lori Amouak of Fox, AK, and Cassandra Amouak-Hale of Seattle; half siblings Kay Amouak Wilson and William Amouak of Portland, Bill and Tommy Amouak of Basin, WY, and many cousins. Honored to be considered as family is Ann Stockman and Jerry Jenkins of Anchorage, and Gene and Jacqueline Augustine of Eagle River, they were enrichment to be in Ralph's life.

Jeremy Ralph loved his daughter Violet Amouak, born in Oct 2002. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to support Violet's higher education at Wells Fargo Banks in "Jeremy Ralph Amouak Memorial Fund" or "Fund to Benefit Violet Amouak."

Memorial service: Sunday (Oct. 14) at 1 p.m. at St. Andrews Church in Eagle River. A memorial service occurred Oct. 6, 2012 at the Tribal Hall, in Fairbanks, and another will occur at Sogorea Te, Glen Cove, CA.

We fondly remember young Ralph as a soft-spoken, curious young Boy Scout, who enjoyed adventure, learning, and having fun with his friends. He and our son James were in the same troop. Our thoughts and prayers for Ralph's large-loving family.
