JOAN HOPP Obituary

HOPP Joan Edith Hopp, aged 81, died peacefully on May 30, 2014 at her home in Manasquan, NJ surrounded by her loving family. Joan was born on March 3, 1933 in Paterson, NJ, the daughter of Alvin Leroy Airey and Edith Mae Sisco. Joan spent most of her childhood in Fairlawn, NJ. After marrying the love of her life, Joseph Anthony Hopp, and moving around the country with him while he was in service, they settled in Hawthorne, NJ where they raised their two children. They later moved to Manasquan, NJ and soon after purchased their bed-and-breakfast, The Hopp-Inn Guest House, in Marathon, FL. Joan was a driving force in getting their business started - she even got The New York Times to write a piece featuring The Hopp-Inn! She was an avid duplicate bridge player, eventually earning the title of Life Master from the American Contract Bridge League. Joan was a member of the Marathon Yacht Club and the First Presbyterian Church in Manasquan. Joan loved the beach, the Dallas Cowboys, and the New York Yankees, but mostly loved spending time with her family. Joan is survived by her husband of over sixty years, Joseph A., her daughter Teri Ford and her husband (Jim) of Wilmington, DE, and her son Joseph T. and his wife (Mary) of Big Pine Key, FL. She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Kristin Last and her husband (Corey), Kaitlin Ford, and Lindsay Hopp as well as two great grandchildren, Bretton and Shannon Last. Also surviving are three sisters-in-law, many nieces and nephews, and a multitude of lifelong friends. Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home located at 39 South Street, Manasquan, NJ. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2014, at 11 AM at the First Presbyterian Church of Manasquan. Cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Manasquan. For more information or to post a tribute, please visit www.neary-quinnfuneralhome.com.

We all lost a bright star when we lost Joan. So many happy memories at the beach and all they special times we shared with our wonderful family. Joan shared her wonderful daughter Teri with us, what a blessing. I'll always remember her making us coffee every day and commenting that the "kids" never make coffee. We always shared a special time at the diner for breakfast. Joe and Joan were a perfect couple, and I know Joe is surrounded by loving family and friends. Sorry we cannot be there with you, but you are in our thoughts and prayers. Love, Terry and Sally
