The ones I loved will always know how much they meant to me
I must go now to see my Lord, please know that I am free
I lived my life the best I could and tried to make you proud
Please live your life and think of me and call my name aloud-
I will answer thoughtfully with a whisper, a caress and a smile
I loved you all but I must leave for just a little while
I will see you all in heaven where God has made my home
For all of us to rejoice again and never more to roam
I love you all, your son and brother and friend

What a great loss for his family, friends, and for those of us that have seen God through his photographs. I knew Johnny as a young girl, he was a friend of my oldest brother and I used to hang out with his little sister. He was my first crush - I think I was 9. My older siblings have stayed in touch all these years (30+) and I treasure his books that have been a constant on my coffee table since I received them. (Thanks Sis) Like so many others, my family and I have been forever touched, not only by the images he captured on film but by the way he told their stories.

John was a good friend and such an amazing photographer. I used to play a lot of weekends down at Kenai Lake Lodge when he was one of the owners -- some of my favorite memories. It was a privilege to be asked to play music for his wedding, and our family was honored to know him and call him our friend. John, you will be missed by so many, thank you for leaving such a rich legacy of beautiful photos for all of us to enjoy. Our thoughts & prayers are with family & loved ones.

In My Pocket
I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.
My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.
They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.
Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.
But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

Dear Pezzenti Family,
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord.
And may perpetual light shine upon him .
May the souls of the faithfully departed
through the mercy of God
rest in peace.
Amen.

John was a good friend of mine dating back to 1985 in Alaska when we met at the Sullivan Arena Sportsman Show. Struck by his wonderful wildife photograph I wrote a story about him. We stayed in touch for all of the years since, including since I moved to Chicago in 2001. I wrote the introduction to John's last photo book and was honored to do so.
Mostly these last 7 years since I left Alaska we stayed in touch by telephone and on my occasional visits back. We used to talk about taking a trip to Denali National Park together, but never got around to it. Another time, though, John gave me a quickie lesson on winter photography opportunities within Anchorage's city limits. It was a wonderful day, we took neat pictures and I will always remember that. Whenever I either had a business meeting, or ate at the Millenium Hotel, I made a trip to the second floor to visit with all of John's photos on display. Each visit was a renewal of my appreciation for Alaska, too. I have been depressed about the events of a month ago and think of him often. I will also miss going back to Anchorage and not being able to visit. My heart goes out to all of John's relatives and loved ones.
