John Webber Obituary

John Webber, age 73, of Detroit Lakes, MN, died on Friday, February 10, 2017 in the loving care of his family and Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Myron John Webber, the son of Myron and Donnafred (Sanders) Webber was born on April 19, 1943 in Detroit Lakes, MN.  As a child, John and his family lived in the Grand Forks, ND, and Bismark, ND communities before moving to Minot, ND as a young teenager.  Following his high school graduation in 1961, John played college football for several campuses.  He joined the National Guard and worked for a time with the railroad before getting his first sales position with Northwest Beverage.

John was united in marriage to Juanita Harvey on March 9, 1974 and together they were blessed with three children.  In 1978, John’s love affair with auto dealerships began when he purchased a dealership in Harvey, ND and operated John Webber Motors there for several years.  Ten years later, in 1985, they moved to Minot where he worked in sales for Fisher Motors.  After this time John owned his own used automobiles and recreational vehicle sales business in Minot.  The family relocated to Williston in 1992 and opened a Honda dealership and expanded in 1998 acquiring the Chrysler dealership there as well. Although he kept very busy with the Williston dealership, selling both vehicles and RV's, John partnered with his daughter and son-in-law to open an RV and Watercraft dealership in Detroit Lakes in 2003.   John sold the auto dealership in Williston in 2007 but retained the RV sales until 2010.  Eager to work with and be closer to his family, he purchased Detroit Lakes Chrysler-Dodge in 2007 and added the Jeep dealership in 2010.  John and Juanita moved to make their permeant home in Detroit Lakes in 2011.  He and his family proudly own and operate Webber Family Motors -Ford, Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep and Ram and opened their new location in 2012.  John had a true passion for automobiles, watercraft and RV's to which he dedicated his career too.  He also loved football and served as a high school referee for several years in the Minot area.  John never missed watching a Thursday, Sunday, or Monday night football game.  In his spare time, John enjoyed swimming in the lake and listening to music.  More than any fancy vehicle, John loved his scooter.  He always looked forward to his daily drives around the lake.  Over the years he put many many miles on those little scooters and made just as many wonderful memories that his family will cherish forever.  John had a generous spirit and his home was always open to family and friends. He loved living close to family and cherished watching his family grow.  Although John had a private personality and often sat quietly nearby, he truly treasured each moment he spent being around those he loved.

John is survived by his wife, Juanita; his children:  Kristine (Doran) Schneibel, Jeff and Brock (Lesley), all of Detroit Lakes; 11 grandchildren: Alexi, Ivy, and Lyla Schneibel, Alex, Madyson, Bailey, Boston, Casey John, and Murphy Jo “M.J” Webber, and Gabby and Logan Fredrickson; and one great grandchild, Quinn.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

John held a special place in his heart for St. Jude Children’s Hospital therefore his family prefers that if a memorial is offered it be given to St Jude in his memory.

Dear Juanita and family,
I was so saddened to learn of John's death. John was a close friend through our Minot High School years. We spent many hours of windshield time after buying four gallons of gas at M&H for $1.00 and cruising Main and Broadway for hours. We were close friends during those years and had a lot of fun and memorable times together. John was one of four Groomsmen in my marriage to Judy Kemp and was the last surviving one as well. Judy tells me all the time that men don't communicate with friends the way women do and reflecting on my older relationships I would have to agree. May the peace of God comfort you Juanita, and your family, during this time of grief as you reflect on the years you have spent with John. God's promises are true and eternal it's His timing that is difficult for us to understand.
Sincerely, Dick and Judy Winje

We were so sorry to hear of John's passing.
Juanita & Family, while we have never met,
please accept our condolences for your loss.
Our time spent with John goes back to our high school days mostly. John's Mom & Dad were very kind to me. I used either the family or dealership car to take my drivers test (twice). I can't help but smile when I think of those days: playing football, hanging out, doing all the crazy things that teenagers did in those days.
I would be remiss if I left out the fancy
white Plymouth Fury convertible that John drove. As I recall, it was very fast. We never got in any trouble, but we sure had a lot of fun together.

John and I have been friends for over 50 years. We met at football practice when we were in the 10th grade. He continued to play, I did not, but our friendship continued thru out the years. At my best count he sold me 17 vehicles from his Harvey, Minot, Williston and Detroit Lakes Dealerships. Some he delivered and some I had to pick up myself. Each time we had to party a little bit for old time sakes.

I wish Roxann and I could be there for your family and lend a little support. You will always be in our prays and thoughts John. Our heart is heavy, but may you rest in Peace.

John was a great man. I will forever remember him. What I enjoyed about John the most was his straight forward, no bs approach to everything. I have missed him around the store the last few months. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers in this difficult time. Take care and keep his memories alive!

I was so blessed to work for John and Juanita. So many laughs were shared as we worked together! Seeing John putt thru town on his little red scooter always put a smile on your face! He was a man of few words and big emotions. He and Juanita treated employees like family and made you feel valued. John was generous and wise and kind and funny and full of love and pride in his family! He will be so deeply missed! Praying for comfort for you and your family Juanita. Love and huggs to you!

John was such a quiet man with a big personality. So generous in sharing everything with the big extended family. His legacy lives on in the kids, and grandkids that he loved so much and in the love and lifetime of memories he made with you Juanita.

What we have once enjoyed, we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes part of us. -Helen Keller

I was sadden to hear of Johns passing. I was part of the family for 23 plus years, I have many happy memories and remember many times chuckling about the silly things John would say or do. I will cherish each memory and will lovingly keep him in my heart. My heart and arms will always be open to the entire family. I love you all !!
