Jonathan Alvarado Obituary

Captain Jonathan Pablo Alvarado was killed in an aviation accident in Charleston, W.Va., on May 5, 2017, at the age of 47. Jonathan lived an adventurous life, never staying put for very long.
He was an avid reader, reading hundreds of books a year. He loved tequila and wings and talking to pretty girls.
Born in Portland, Maine, and raised in Phoenix, Ariz., Jonathan originally moved to Alaska in 1984, and attended Clark Middle School and then Bartlett High School.
During this time, he became a member of the Alaska Civil Air Patrol and Anchorage Fire Department Explorers. He started life-long friendships.
While working as a Fire Jumper, Jonathan decided he would like to be a helicopter pilot and left Alaska to pursue that dream. Jonathan lived in Oklahoma and Nevada while pursuing his varied pilot's licenses, and finally received a Bachelor of Science in Aviation Management through Embry Riddle in Georgia. Jonathan traveled all over the world ferrying planes from as far north as Greenland, and as far south as Bolivia.
Jonathan loved Alaska and returned to fly for several Alaskan companies, including Grant Aviation and Iliamna Air. He flew all over Alaska.
In his quest for more training opportunities, Jon left Alaska and went to Air Cargo Carriers of Wisconsin. Jonathan was a pilot employed by Air Cargo Carriers at the time of his death.
Jonathan loved playing trivia at pubs and restaurants as his travels took him to new places.
Jon also enjoyed playing volleyball and had recently joined a league at the YMCA in Charleston. Jon's passions included collecting firearms, loving animals, and his family. Jonathan is preceded in death by his father, Reynaldo Alvarado; and several aunts and uncles; as well as his grandparents. He is survived by his mother, JoAnn Sawyer; his stepfather, Carl Sawyer; and his sisters, Windy Alvarado, Heather Alvarado, Deborah Sawyer, Robin Cronkite, Heather Sawyer, Carrie Apodaca and Patricia Ortiz; and his brother, Shawn Alvarado. He is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Jonathan on July 15, 2017, at the Alaska Aviation Museum, 4721 Aircraft Drive in Anchorage, from 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Donations can be made in Jonathan's name to your favorite animal rescue group.
Arrangements are with Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
