Joseph Raposa Obituary

RAPOSA, JOSEPH JR., 87, of Portsmouth, RI and Naples, FL ,died Friday, June 21, 2013 at Sakonnet Bay Manor in Tiverton, RI. He was husband of the late H. Marjorie (Finnegan) Raposa. Born in Fall River, MA on August 13, 1925, he was the son of the late Joseph Raposa and Florence (Oliver) Raposa. Mr. Raposa attended BMC Durfee High School in Fall River, MA. Before graduating high school, he joined the Army and entered the Army Air Corps where he was trained as a pilot. After the military, he attended Brown University, where he studied Mechanical Engineering. He was a Master Plumber and Master Pipefitter and became the owner of Montle Plumbing and Heating of Fall River. He was a member of the Plumbers Trade Union Local 51, formerly Local 77. Joe was a positive role model for his family, and considered time with them his top priority. He planned many memorable vacations to New Hampshire, the Cape, and Block Island with his family. He loved his time on the water aboard "The Hazel" his 50' Chris Craft. He loved traveling and visited Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, North and South America. His favorite country was Egypt, to which he returned several times. He celebrated his 85th birthday with Polar Bears at the Arctic Circle, and his 86th birthday was spent on safari in South Africa. He also had a passion for animals, and his beloved Standard Poodle "Paws" was always by his side. He is survived by his sons, David J. Raposa of Tiverton, Paul A. Raposa of Portsmouth, Robert D. Raposa of Tiverton, Joseph O. Raposa of Portsmouth, Peter J. Raposa of Portsmouth, Stephen F. Raposa of Acworth, GA, and his daughter Nancy E. Raposa of Portsmouth. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lisa Millar Denise Langfield, Louis Raposa Nicholas Raposa, Colby Raposa, Eric Raposa, Jared Raposa, Michael Raposa and USMC LCpl Matthew Raposa, and his great grand children Isabella and Charlotte Langfield and his brother Franklin D. Raposa of Tiverton. He was preceded in death by his wife H. Marjorie Raposa and his brother John P. Raposa Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 26 from 2:00-4:00pm and 7:00pm-9:00pm in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Rd, Portsmouth. His funeral will be held on Thursday, June 27, at 9:00am from Connors Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown. In lieu of flowers Memorial donations may be made to St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871. Nancy,Stephen,Peter,Joseph,Robert,Paul and David, it is with great feeling that I say "I feel your loss". Your DAD was a great person and you should all be proud! Joe Raposa and Marge Reposa have much to be proud of because you all know what it means to be a family. I am a better person because I had the privilege of being a friend.
