Joseph Walker Obituary

Joseph Lloyd Walker died of a brain tumor on Jan. 8, 2007, at his home in Bismark, Ark. He was 79.
A memorial service was Jan. 11 at the Caruth-Hale Funeral Home Chapel in Hot Springs, Ark. The Rev. Gail Cole Baldwin officiated.
Joe was born Nov. 26, 1926, in Corning, Ark., to Arthur Henry and Lona (Layton) Walker. He was one of 10 children.
Joe served in the U.S. Army occupational forces immediately after World War II, receiving a Victory Medal for his services. He was a rifle expert in the Korean War, receiving three Bronze Stars for his combat service.
He came to Anchorage in 1963 and explored Southcentral Alaska by boat, private plane, snowmobile, skis and on foot. Joe took great pleasure in filling up his and his friends' freezers with fish and game. He was a master mechanic, able to fix major breakdowns in Alaska's harsh weather. He was general foreman of the G.S.A. motor pool in Anchorage when he retired in 1986. Shortly after retirement he moved to Arkansas to be closer to his family.
A friend wrote: "Joe was a bright, one-of-a-kind, loyal friend and companion. His wit, charm and resourcefulness will be sorely missed by all those who knew and loved him. He will not be forgotten.
"Joe loved Alaska and will be coming home when his ashes are scattered on Resurrection Bay this summer."
He is survived by his wife, Agnes Fay (Huskey) Walker; sons and daughters-in-law, Philip and Heather Walker, and Scott and Lola Walker, all of Warrenton, Mo.; two sisters and five brothers; two stepdaughters and their families; mother-in-law; and 13 grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers were Dr. John R. Pace, Dr. Robert T. Muldoon, Kay Vinson and Flory Vinson.
Friends may mail condolences to Aggie Walker, Route 2, Box 567, Bismark, AR 71929.
