Julia Walker Obituary

Anvik resident Julia Ann Walker, 52, passed away in a plane crash on August 13, 2011 in McGrath, Alaska.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at All Saint's Episcopal Church, 545 West 8th Ave., at 9:00 a.m. with a service to follow at 10:00 a.m. Additional services will be held at Christ Church in Anvik, Alaska on Saturday, August 20, 2011. A potlatch will be held Friday, August 19, 2011. Pallbearers include Chad Walker, Chaz Walker, Ted Jones, Carlson King, Carl Jerue, Clifford Jerue, Alfred Jerue, Ted Kruger, Charles Jerue, and Merle Jerue. Julia will be laid to rest at Anvik Cemetery in Anvik, Alaska.

Julia was born on January 24, 1959 in Anvik, Alaska. She had a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education. Julia worked for the Iditarod Area School District. She was a longtime board member of Alaska Village Electric Cooperative and was affiliated with Episcopal Church. Julia volunteered extensively in the community; she loved Anvik and was so proud to live there.

Her family wrote, "Julia was known and loved throughout the world, wherever she traveled, she left a piece of herself, her love, and her graciousness. All children were her pride and joy. She loved her job as an educator and made a difference in every child's life she touched. She lived a subsistence way of life, all her traditions, cultures and values were taught to her at a very young age. So she knew how important it was to pass it down to her own children and students. If it was berry picking, cutting fish, moose hunting, spirit camp, or potlatches, she was there to share her knowledge, give a helping hand, and lift your spirits."

Survivors include her husband Robert A. Walker of Anvik, Alaska; sons Chadwick and Chaz Walker both of Anvik, Alaska and Ryan Demientieff of Holy Cross, Alaska; daughter Brandi (Cassie) Walker-Jones; daughter-in-law Alberta Walker; son-in-law Ted Jones; grandsons Carlson King, Corwin and Chadwick Walker, Jr.; granddaughters Chantelle and Chaniya Walker all of Anvik, Alaska; mother Marsha Jerue of Anchorage; brother Clifford Jerue and partner Sherry Kruger; brother Carl Jerue, Jr., and wife Tami Jerue; sister Susan Kruger and husband Ted Kruger all of Anvik, Alaska; sister Beverly Masek of Willow, Alaska; brothers Alfred Jerue of Anvik, Alaska, and Charles and Merle Jerue both of Anchorage, Alaska. She leaves many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and nephews as well as many god children.

She is preceded in death by her father Carl Jerue, Sr., and sons Christopher C. Walker, and Brian Ward.

All donation can be made to Anvik Tribal Council; P.O. Box 10, Anvik, Alaska 99558, telephone # 907-663-6322

It is with great sadness, even after all these years, to learn of the passing of Julia Walker. We can still see her smiling, welcoming face we saw each day, Monday thru Friday - she as school secretary and we as new teachers in Anvik 1983-1986. We can still see her as the genuine, concerned parent she was in school meetings with Freda, Judy, Donna, and Diane. We can especially see her as the loving, generous mom of Chris and Chad at the time, as well as the consistent, dedicated sister and daughter she was to each of her brothers and sisters and to her parents - what a blessed family to have had her in their lives for this short time. We are keeping all of you in prayer. Our deepest sympathies to Julia's entire family especially Robert. God allowed you to share your life with one of His beautiful beloved souls. May she rest in eternal peace, safe in His arms.

To the Family of Julia Walker, the sadness I feel in my heart over the loss of Julia can not even come close to the overwhelming loss all of you must be feeling. Julie was such a vital and loving part of all your lives, her place can never be filled. When I think of Julia, I think of someone who was so determined about everything she did; her family; her profession; her traditional roots and much more. May your pain be soften just knowing how much she gave of herself on your behalf. She is all a glitter in angel dust now.
