Justin Davidson Obituary

Justin Phillip Davidson, 38, died on May 3, 2015, in a car accident on Bogard Road near Wasilla, Alaska. He was a beloved husband, father, son, brother and uncle, and a dear friend to many. He will be deeply missed. Justin was born on Sept. 21, 1976, in Round Rock, Texas, to Harry and Judi Davidson. The family moved to Alaska in 1983, where Justin spent his childhood and adolescence, graduating from Palmer High School in 1995. As a teenager, Justin traveled the world as a performing artist and missionary with Youth With A Mission. Summers during middle and high school brought him to Mexico, China, South Korea, Indonesia, Europe, and across the United States. His association with YWAM continued into his mid-twenties, when he met his future wife, Hazel Rebecca Salazar, at a bible school in Montana. Justin and Hazel were married in November 2002 in Los Angeles, Calif. Their daughters, Lucia and Ava, were born there and the family moved to Alaska in 2009, and settled in the Mat-Su Valley. Their son, Ezra, was born that year in Wasilla. An avid outdoorsman and mountaineer, Justin spent many summers commercial fishing in Bristol Bay, where the Davidson family has fished for three generations. He loved his family and friends dearly, loved to be in the mountains and on the sea and loved to laugh and live life to its fullest. Justin was an active member his community and church, Good Shepherd Lutheran, and volunteered at Fronteras Spanish Emersion School and CCS Early Learning, among other organizations. Justin is survived by his wife, Hazel; and their three children, Lucia (11), Ava (9) and Ezra (6); his brothers, Joel, John and Jared Davidson; his parents, Harry and Judi Davidson of Palmer, Alaska; and a large extended family. A funeral will be held at the Davidson family home at 8325 E Aspen Ridge Road in Palmer, on Sunday, May 10, 2015, at 4 p.m., with a potluck reception outside the family residence immediately following. I worked with Justin and just learned of his untimely death. My heart goes out to you, Hazel, and little ones-his parents, siblings, and all who loved him - in his case, that would be so many. I remember Lucia and baby sister in car seats behind him one day he pulled into the parking lot. He was a loving man. I just loved Justin. He was a breath of fresh air. He was so interesting to talk to and so real and down to earth and kind. He wowed me -when time permitted- with stories of growing up in Alaska. I grew up in CA and also love the outdoors - and had read Jack London.
He knew found his stories so interesting - and was kind to answer my questions about Alaska. I am grateful to have worked with him and known him. Prayers for you all in his loss. -Joan Know
