Lawrence Gamble Obituary

Lawrence George Gamble Sr. passed away from a brief illness on April 19, 2018. Lawrence was born at Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital in Sitka, Alaska, on April 19, 1960.
Larry was the son of Arthur and Anita (Duncan-Wright) Gamble. Larry was Kiksadi of the Frog Clan and very proud of it. Larry's church name was Larenty and he served as an alter boy at St. Michael's Orthodox growing up. Larry was a friend of Bill W. He was a good friend to everyone. He generously helped those in need of help. He was a skilled mechanic and his passion was traditional Tlingit carving inspired by Grandma Emma (Willis) Duncan and Grandpa Peter Duncan. He had been working on carving items for an upcoming memorial for his mother.
Larry was a shift manager at one of the Carl's Jr. restaurants. Later, he went on to ABC Motorhome Sales and Rentals. There, he was the operations manager for the company until his illness stopped him from working.
During his time in Anchorage, he helped numerous people find employment when they could not find it anywhere else. He thought of others' well being and brought faith to the ones lost in this struggling world. Many of those people are here today and are paying their respects to a friend who he brought hope back in their lives.
While at ABC Motor Homes he met Tammy, his beloved wife until his passing.
Survivors include his wife, Tammy Gamble of Anchorage; his daughters, Mellissa Johnson of Anchorage and Nicole Tillman of Spokane, Wash.; son, George Gamble Jr. of Las Vegas, Nev.; sister, Gerri Castonguay of Kodiak, Alaska; brothers, Dan (Paula) of Seattle, Wash., and Bob of Seattle; adopted brother, Bill Hawk of Anchorage; and stepchildren, Joshua, Jeremiah and Mary Robbins of Anchorage. Also surviving are numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Anita Wright; father, Arthur Gamble; stepfather, Frank Wright Sr.; brother, Arthur Gamble Jr.; and sister, Arlene Gamble.
His family said that in his final days, Larry was an inspiration to all who visited him by his belief in forgiveness and positive thinking. The family appreciated the time spent with him and are thankful to say they made amends, asking forgiveness, forgiving errors and renewing a right spirit within them all. He will be missed immensely by friends, family and the many businesses in Sitka and Anchorage who came to know him through his frequent visits and phone calls.
Funeral Services are scheduled for Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at 4 p.m., at St. Innocent Orthodox Cathedral in Anchorage. Pallbearers are: Mark Bean, David Justice, Oengus Ravenwood, Eddie Jones, Bo Waska and Pat Nutter. Honorary pallbearers are: Henry Johnson, Travis Harden, Albert Frank III, Donovan Duncan, John Duncan Jr., Alex Johnson-Rice, John Marquardt, Keith Perkins, Nels Lawson, William Kanosh and Richard Marvin. A reception will follow the funeral at Pat Nutters home at 3920 Red Talon Drive in Anchorage.
Condolences can be sent to Tammy Gamble at 2409 McRae Road, #17, Anchorage, AK 99517; and Gerri Castonguay, Box 2966, Kodiak, AK 99615.
