Lawrence Wade Obituary

Lawrence (Larry) Melvin Wade born August 29, 1943 in Anchorage, Alaska passed away unexpectedly at Alaska Native Medical Center on February 14, 2014.

Larry lived most of his life by Moose Creek in the beautiful Ahtna country of his Ancestors. He graduated from Palmer High School in 1961, attended the University of Alaska in Fairbanks for two years taking electrical engineering classes, and was a member of the Air Force National Guard. Larry worked for more than twenty-five years in the oil industry as an operator, foreman, roughneck, and driller. After his retirement Larry served on the Chickaloon Village Traditional Council for many years offering valuable leadership skills and mentoring advice in the service to his Tribe.

Larry respected the great outdoors and his sanctuary was nature. He loved flying his airplane, hunting, fishing, boating, and feeding his flock of birds and other animals. He appreciated a good long road trip simply because he loved just looking at the scenery. He even enjoyed driving the Alcan numerous times even in winter. The thing he enjoyed most though was spending time visiting with family and friends over a cup of coffee offering his famous "whatcha' oughta do's." His family notes that he was intelligent, humorous, friendly, welcoming, generous, without judgment, and easy going. He offered a helping hand whenever one was needed.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Richard William Wade and Katherine Mae (Wickersham) Wade. Surviving Larry is his devoted and loving partner of 22 years, Terri Holbrook; daughter, Lisa Wade and son-in law, Gene Agnew of Moose Creek; son, Tony Wade and daughter-in law, Melanie Nortier-Wade of Entremont, France; son, Alex Wade of St. Paul, Minnesota; grandchildren, Tara Agnew, Ayla Agnew, and Jonah Wade; sisters, Patricia Wade and Larraine (Rain) Wade; brother, Doug Wade; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many loyal friends.

A potluck celebration of Larry's life for family and friends will be held outside around a bonfire at the family residence at Moose Creek on Friday, April 11th at 3:00 p.m. The placement of his spirit house will take place on April 12th in Chickaloon at 11:00 a.m. with a potlatch celebration following at the Ya Ne Dah Ah School.

The family would like to thank Kehl's Mortuary for their services. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Ya Ne Dah Ah School; P.O. Box 1105; Chickaloon, AK 99674.
