My late husband Flore Lekanof Sr knew Leda and her family from the 'cradle years' and on up. I first met her in the 1980's when Flore and I first visited St. George Island. The trips were to attend either board meetings or annual shareholder meetings. We had the most exciting visits and one of the highlights of our trips were the hours after dinner was served and then our young sons were put to bed. We would all meet at the Company House (where we were staying) and people would start to drift in and a card game of payute was begun. None of us complained of fatigue but the games would last till all hours. One year Leda joined us and what do you know -- she won the big pot of the night and I vividly remember her scooping up a table full of coin. Leda's mother and Flore were first cousins so there were many happy stories to share. Yes Leda did conduct herself well and she lived independently in Anchorage and kept up her contacts with the people from her 'hometown'. Memory Eternal.
