Lois Clay Obituary

Former Alaska resident Lois Dorothy "Kitty" Clay died at home June 14, 2008, in Sequim, Wash., of cancer. She was 78.
At her request, there will be no service.
Kitty was born Nov. 17, 1929, in Bloomingdale, Ill., to Harold and Ellen Young. When she was an infant, her family moved to St. Paul, Minn., where she was raised listening to her father's dream of seeing Alaska.
Kitty graduated from high school in 1947. In 1948, Kitty, her cousin and her best friend moved to Alaska. Kitty met Don Clay and the two were married in Anchorage on May 28, 1949.
After having her four children, Kitty started her airline career with Pacific Northern Airlines in 1966, retiring from Western Airlines (purchaser of PNA) in 1987. She and Don traveled until building their retirement dream home in Sequim in 1989.
Kitty was very devoted and active in her children's lives. She greatly loved travel, visiting with friends and spending time at her lakefront cabin at Question Lake, just south of Talkeetna.
Kitty is survived by her husband of 59 years, Don; sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Carol, Mitch and Diane, and Scott and Lynn; daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Larry Hinkle, all of Anchorage; grandchildren, Matt, Christine, Brett, Candy, Jessica and Amanda of Anchorage, Dustin and Jason of Wasilla, Melissa of Spicewood, Texas, and Melissa of Cheyenne, Wyo., Donald of Winter Park, Fla., and Jacob of Monterrey, Calif.; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Carey Hope Clay; sister, Bette Asmus; and brother, John Young.
Condolences may be sent to Don Clay, 340 S. Olympic View Drive, Sequim, WA 98382.

Dear Don and Family,
I'm so saddened by the news of Kitty's passing, which I just learned today. I have such regrets of having lost touch with her as I have so many worderful memories of times we shared together, both, at work and play. She was wise beyond words yet so "gentle of heart"...and I truly loved her. What a tremendous void she will leave in all of our hearts! Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you.
Love,
Nancy Walker, PNA/WAL/DL

Don and family,
There is little I can say at a time like this. She was such a warm, wonderful and caring person, although I have not seen her in years, I will always remember her and our years together at PNA/WAL with great fondness! May God give you peace and strenth in all the wonderful precious memories you all have. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. God Bless!

I first met Kitty in Anchorage while I was still a teenager and she never changed over all that time - she was still a great person, full of life and joy. When she and I got together in the mornings at her home in Sequim, she never failed to offer me a glass of wine and joined me in one! I will so miss her.

I worked with Kitty with both PNA and Western. I don't think she had an enemy in the world and touched the lives of all of us. I also worked with Don with his many construction projects. I have a great deal of good memories of the two of them and Kitty will be long be remembered and sorely missed.

Kitty worked for me in ANC for many years and she was a kind, hard working employee. I could always count on her to do the right thing. I know that Don will miss her very much as will many others. She was a true Alaskan and one of the great PNA'rs.
