Marianne Wood Obituary

Marianne passed away on Saturday, June 23rd at 10:24 a.m. in the assisted living home where she had been living since November 2011. Marianne had been battling severe COPD, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, 3 hip surgeries and pneumonia.

Marianne was born November 13, 1951 to Johnnie and Burke Wheat in Oneonta, Alabama. She was very premature weighing only 2 pounds 2 ounces. Her small size did not limit her abilities or her passion for life.

Marianne was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Bernard Wood in February 2012; her parents Johnnie and Burke Wheat; 1 brother, Byron Franklin Wheat and 1 sister Sandra Gail Spinella.

She is survived by her daughter Kelsey Taylor Wood; one son Kyle Monroe Wood; three granddaughters, Alexis Taylor Babcock, Trinity Michael Twete, and Gracelynn Gail Dyer; one brother William N. Wheat of Florahome, Florida, and a sister, Tommie K. Brubaker of Whittier, Alaska.

Marianne and her family moved to Alaska in 1987. She worked for the University of Alaska Anchorage. She was excellent at everything she attempted to do, with fabulous organizational skills. She was kind, loving and a very giving person. She adored her granddaughters and they were an important and loving part of her life.

Marianne will be greatly missed by all. Condolences for Marianne's family may be sent to her daughter, Kelsey Taylor Wood at 6524 Cimarron Circle, Anchorage, AK 99504.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Lung Association in Marianne's name.

Marianne's ashes will be spread with her husband's at a later time.

Arrangements entrusted to the Cremation Society of Alaska. An online guestbook can be signed at www.alaskacremation.com

She was my only sister. She came as a package deal with her sister and my wife Tommie. I loved her and will miss her always.

I knew Marianne as a co-worker at UAA. She was a joy to be around. We will miss you.

Marianne was my baby sister, and I will never stop missing her. She had been sick for so long, and had been so lonely since her beloved husband Bernie died in Feb. this year.
She use to make me laugh until I cried. There isn't much laughter left, unless a story is shared about her, but for me it quickly turns back to tears.
Marianne I hope you are with our parents, siblings and mostly Bernie. I love you and will miss you for the rest of my life.
I love you, Tommie
