Mavis Roy Obituary

Anchorage resident Mavis Elaine Roy, 67, died of heart failure June 11, 2007, at Providence Alaska Medical Center.
A service was held June 15 at St. Patrick's Church. A memorial service will take place Aug. 11 at St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church in Naytahwaush, Minn.
Mrs. Roy was born Oct. 12, 1939, in White Earth, Minn. She graduated from Mahnomen High School in Mahnomen, Minn. She attended Haskell Institute in Lawrence, Kan., and had lived in Minnesota and Illinois before moving to Alaska.
Mrs. Roy worked for the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services, retiring in July 1996.
Her family wrote: "Her grandchildren were her greatest focus. She also loved reading, traveling and maintaining relationships with her family and friends. She was closely affiliated with St. Patrick's Church. She received an Outstanding Achievement Award from Social Services for the superb foster care she provided.
"Mavis led an excellent life. Her love of God, family, friends and foster children was carried out in a Christ-like fashion. Her sacrifical actions, strength and stability made it easy to believe in a loving God. She taught many about the meaning and importance of family. She was greatly loved and will be missed."
