Michael J. Kozar, 86, of Bradenville, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015, at Kelly's Personal Care Home. Born March 30, 1928, in Whitney, he was a son of the late Michael Kozar and Mary C. (Burlas) Kozar. Mike was a very active member at St. Rose Church, where he was an usher for more than 50 years, served as a funeral altar server, and an officer for the St. Rose Seniors. He was retired from Latrobe Steel Company with 43 years of service, and was a Korean War veteran having served in the Army. Mike enjoyed woodworking, camping and traveling. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Suzanne Miscovich; one brother, Thomas Kozar; and two sisters, Ruth Ulishney and Mary Kendi. Mike is survived by his wife, Irene (Kondrich) Kozar, of Bradenville; three sons, Michael S. Kozar and his wife, Peggy, of Laughlintown, Richard F. Kozar and his wife, Heidi, of Whitney, and John M. Kozar, of Thibodaux, La.; one daughter, Rita E. Burd and her husband, Lance, of Fairfield; four grandchildren, Renee Miscovich, Christopher Kozar, Cathryn Blake and Macy Logan; two great-grandchildren, Mitchell Logan and Joseph Kozar; he is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. The St. Rose Rosary Altar Christian Mothers will recite the Rosary at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Military services will be conducted at 9:15 a.m. Monday in the funeral home by the American Legion Post No. 515 and VFW Post No. 3414 and 444. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Rose Church with the Rev. William P. Donahue as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Rose Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
