Mina Bachelder Obituary

Mina Bachelder went to be with the Lord at 87 while surrounded by family members.

Mina was born in Edmonton, Alberta and was raised in Vancouver, British Columbia. She married Everett on May 12, 1950, and then moved to Alaska. Following a few years of ministry with Valley Christian Children's Home in Wasilla and later serving the Lord in Cordova, Mina, Everett and her family of three moved in January of 1954 to Nome, where she made her home for the rest of her life.

Mina's energies were spent raising her 8 children, along with many others who became part of the family, entertaining all their friends, baking homemade bread, leading Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops. She was also involved with the local PTA, Mothers' Club, Toast Mistress Club, and 4-H Club. She taught Sunday School classes, organized Vacation Bible Schools, attended all her families' sporting events and musical performances, picked them up at the end of canoe trips, and cooked at youth camps.

As her children left home, Mina took up other ventures: hosting the after school Cocoa House with Bible stories, songs, and activities for kids and helping with the TLC Bible & Bookstore. She was an example of faith in God and a blessing to many people. She always included her favorite Bible verse, Romans 10:9, with her signature.

Mina loved to listen to the Nome radio station KICY, and enjoyed salmon fishing and berry-picking at camp, and travelling to visit her relatives and friends near and far.

Mina is survived by her children Bethel, Dan, Joel, Rachel, Nathan, Marvel, Jon, and Phil. She has 26 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her newborn son, David, in 1961 and by her husband Everett, in 1996.

The Memorial Service will be Oct. 20, 3 PM, at Lazy Mountain Bible Church in Palmer. A Nome service will be announced at a later date.

The family asks that any donations be made in her memory to KICY in Nome.

Not sure what to say?

My sincere condolences to the family. May you find comfort from the words at Psalm 116:15

October 25, 2012

We pray that God will give comfort to all of you dear ones in Mina's family. She was a very special lady and we thank God that her life touched ours. One particular memory was how very much I appreciated her taking care of our youngest, Neal and Laura, so that I could be a part of a ladies' Bible study when I really needed to be able to have that time away. She understood. God bless each of you as you carry on without her.
With love to you all,

Sorry to hear of her passing, but knowing she's dancing in heaven with beautifully clear eyes. We will always cherish our memories of her and her willingness to help and love all around. She babysat for free on Wednesday nights so Doug and I could do worship team. She played and sang with the kids and loved them as her own. We miss you Mina!

Mina- a precious angel on earth.
What wonderful memories we have of our visits to Nome and her home. She and Everett were so warm and loving to all. We will miss her smile and her wonderful warm laughter. Mina had to be the kindest and most positive person I have ever known. Being with Mina for a visit was like recieving a blessing from the Lord. She loved the cocoa house ministry and spoke of it with such joy. What a tribute to parents who raised such wonderful children, may you and all your children feel God's comfort in his time of loss. She loved her grandchildren so much and was so proud of them. Heaven has a new angel but she will certainly be missed on earth.

Dear Mrs. B. I spent many happy hours in her care. She taught me to make peanut butter cookies. My favorite memory is of one day when she told me about her baby David. She was sitting by the window combing out her long hair, and with the light shining through it she looked like an angel. I shall miss her.

Mrs. Bachelder was a wonderful example to young people of Nome. She was our brownie leader and went to Girl Scout camp with us. I had the true delight of seeing and talking with her in 2001 at the Nome school reunion. My sincere condolences to the family.

We ask God's comfort for the family but can be assured of Mrs. B's celebration in heaven with those who have gone before. One memory of mine is trooping thru the snow to Brownies to make bunsen burners.

Mina and Everett did their job. They raised God-fearing Christian children who along with their families are all ambassadors for Christ. They were a huge influence on anyone they had contact with. I am fortunate to be counted as one of their friends, who first met them at Whitworth College in 1977.

Mina's smile and laugh greeted you in every meeting. She was such a positive influence, from the time we were kids through to adulthood. She was patient (teaching kids how to knit!), kind and caring, sharing (4H skills), and above all, loving. We are so fortunate to have had Mina in our lives.

My prayers are with Mina's family. We were neighbors in Nome many years ago. I was glad when she invited me for tea, I was waiting for a flight to Elim a few summers ago. Sorry for your loss.
