Nancy Culp Obituary

In loving memory of our Mother, Nancy Lahoma Culp. Lahoma (as she was often called) was born on September 9, 1920 in Muskogee, Oklahoma.

As one of the oldest of six siblings, she spent much of her time caring for her younger brothers and sisters. She later met and married her husband of 47 years, Charles C. Culp. They had three children together; Charles Jr., Don and Alicia.

Charles was a military veteran employed with the Federal Bureau of Indian Affairs. Through his employment, they lived in Oklahoma, Florida, Arizona, Washington and finally to Alaska in 1952, where he worked in the local Native hospitals throughout the State. They settled in Anchorage in the fall of 1963, just in time to experience and live through the 1964 earthquake.

Lahoma enjoyed any activities involving her family, traveling, fishing on the Kenai River, weekly trips to Homer and gardening. As a grandmother, she loved taking her grandchildren around town on the bus or trolley, to the park and movies. She loved attending church, helping with Sunday school and was active with her UMW group at 1st United Methodist Church here in Anchorage.

Lahoma was a faithful and committed homemaker, wife and mother. Her unfailing faith in God blessed her with love, compassion, patience and wisdom that she shared with all of her family and many friends. She was a kind and gentle soul always putting others first and reaching out to those in need. The light of God shone through her in everything she did and everyone she touched. She had an inner strength that was unmatched and was our rock in tough times.

Lahoma passed away peacefully at the Anchorage Pioneer Home on Friday, April 25th with family present. She is survived by 2 sons and 1 daughter: Charles Culp, Jr., Don Culp and Alicia Dely; 2 sisters and their families, 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at the Anchorage Pioneer Home, 923 W. 11th Ave., Friday, May 30th from 1-3 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to 1st United Methodist Church, 725 W. 9th Ave., Anchorage, Alaska 99501.

Arrangements are with Janssen Funeral Homes.

Lahoma was one of God's angels on earth... I always said that of her, and now He has her back. She was wonderful to me and everyone who knew her. She was my most admired person, and I'm so lucky and grateful our paths crossed in 1980 on a flight up to Anchorage. Memories of her will stay warm in my heart forever. I loved her dearly.
My deepest sympathy to all her family.
