Randy Deeter Obituary

Husband, father, grandfather, big-game hunter, oral surgeon, brother, uncle and friend Randy "Doc" Deeter died April 2, 2011, at home.

A celebration of life will be from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the Deeter home.

Born July 11, 1950, in Ogden, Utah, to Georgina and Robert Deeter, he was the oldest of four brothers notorious for getting in trouble.

Randy was a meat cutter for 14 years. He was in college and a sportsman and dedicated student on the weekends before starting his first oral surgery practice in Ogden in 1984. After seven successful years, he decided to move to Alaska to pursue his dream of hunting more and working less.

Randy had a passion for hunting, fishing and the outdoors. He lived his hunting dream all over the world. His biggest dream was to live and hunt in Alaska and he made that dream a reality. He raised his family here in this great state, and also had a wonderful passion for his career here as an oral surgeon with Oral Surgeon Associates.

Randy was a generous, gentle and courageous man who led a life fueled by the thrill of the hunt and love for his family and friends. He touched and grabbed every heart he ever met. He was known for telling corny jokes and the following is one of his favorites: "You can pick your nose and you can pick your friends, but you can't pick your friend's nose."

Randy enjoyed competitive sports and owned the Anchorage Cowboys, an amateur flag football team that won three city championships under his leadership. Every team "Doc" supported became part of him and he loved each and everyone who played for him. He became an integral part in the growth of adult football in Anchorage and helped establish the Alaska Football League, which is dedicated to give adults at risk an opportunity to play football. The AFL will name an award and scholarship in the name of this great football ambassador.

Randy is survived by his wife, Michelle; his children, Nathan, RandiLee, Kaelyn, Cory, and Taylor; his grandchildren, Madison, Monroe, Landen, and Brenna; and his brothers, Richard, Ronald and Barry.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to cancer research.

Randy was a wonderful man to work for, and very generous. He was supportive of our craziness in his Fairbanks office and I've missed his sense of humor over the years. I was so sorry to hear he had been ill! My prayers go out to family and those closest to him. May the Lord wrap you in the arms of his love and peace.

Randy was one of the kindest and thoughtful people I have ever met. He brightened the room when he entered and of course he had that amazing, corny humor. I never heared him say a bad word about anone else. He is a great loss to Alaska and all of the people who had the luck to have met him. In addition, he was a great surgeon.

This was the most generous gentleman and kindess man and having him as my brother-in law was a blessing. He always had time and my kids couldn't have asked for a better uncle. He will surely be missed. I remember I would go to the house and asked him what he added to the "house of roadkill" private joke between us. He always smiled and laughed with the best sense of humor. Who else has his pet cow as a rug. Randy I know you will be smiling down on all of us as we will always smile upward and remember you
Love to you Randy from Robert and Lynda Brown and family

Our fearless leader....great surgeon, great boss, great friend, great big heart. We couldn't have had a finer person to work for and to work with. His practical jokes and pranks kept us all on our toes, but when it was time to work he was totally focused on his patients and giving them the very best care available. It was a privilege to be one of his assistants for 21 years. He leaves a very big hole in our work days and in our lives. I'll miss him.

My deepest condolences ...
There are no words valiant enough to describe this man.
Randy was a shining star in the lives of many. He was the most sincere, genuinely kind human being I have ever met. He was a mentor and a friend and it was an honor to know him. He truly showed us how to "Go the extra mile."
If only we can be a light to others, as he was to us.

Sincerely,
Joyce Kurzreiter
