Richard Hornung Sr.

On October 22, 2012 Richard Michael Hornung Sr. passed away at Harbor View Medical Center in Seattle Washington. He was born on December 4th 1951 in Palmer Alaska. Richard's parents (John and Verlie Hornung, deceased) put up roots and built their homestead around 1948. Richard was born and raised in Palmer, Alaska. He graduated from Wasilla High School in 1970.

Richard met his beautiful and loving Wife of 42 years, Linda Christene Hornung in high school and they were married right after graduation. He is survived by his three children and their partners and three grandchildren. His children are his daughter Crystal Lynn Dobmeier and husband Chris Dobmeier; his son, Richard Michael Hornung Jr.; his daughter Narina Dove Hornung and partner Matt Soloy. His grandchildren are Marrisa Faithe Dobmeier, Dawson Alan Hornung, and Landen Richard Soloy. He has three surviving sisters: Carolyn Baragar in Coeur d Alene, Idaho; Lavon Reeder in Napa, California; and Charolet Nelson of Wasilla, Alaska. He leaves behind many cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.

Richard started working at Matanuska Maid Coop in Palmer, Alaska in 1972. He worked there until 1985 when he started up his company Cache Excavating that he ran until he retired (or semi-retired) in 2005. Richard was a hard worker; his driving force for work was his family.Though at times he was loud and stern, he had the kindest heart. For family and friends he would do anything. He had quite the unique sense of humor; you had to really know him to fully appreciate it. Richard will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Celebration of life for Richard will be held Sunday, November 18, 2012 at the Elks Lodge in Palmer, Alaska. Doors will open at 3 p.m. A short memorial service will start at 3:30 p.m., with the Celebration of Life immediately following. Please bring a food dish and many memories to share with family and friends. In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made in Richard's name to the American Cancer Society Alaska Chapter.
