Robert A. Steele

1929 - 2016

Robert Steele, 86, former resident of Anchorage, Alaska, died on May 5, 2016, in Kent, Wash., of a heart attack. Robert was born in Denver, Colo., and loved mountain climbing and skiing. He met his first wife, Ruth, climbing Mt. Evans. They enjoyed square and round dancing together and lived in Germany for three years, where they enjoyed touring Europe. After Ruth's passing in 1992, he met and married Rosalee, also an avid dancer. They enjoyed 23 years dancing and traveling together. Robert served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star and he served in the Army Reserves. At the time of his retirement, he was a civil engineer for the USAF Dept of Defense at Elmendorf Air Force Base. In his retirement years, besides square and round dancing and holding the office of president for a local dance club, he was busy as a volunteer for Way Back Inn, which provides transitional housing to homeless families with children; he volunteered for AARP to assist with tax preparation; and he enjoyed cultivating roses and making homemade wine. He is survived by his wife, Rosalee; daughters, Dianna Broadie (Doug), Laurie Steele and Kathryn Hawkins (Kelly); son, David Steele; stepdaughter, Sandra Culver-Holmes; and stepson, Mike Culver.
