Ronald Jones
Ronald "Ron" Wayne Jones, 47, died unexpectedly Dec. 21, 2009, at Anchorage Regional Hospital.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Muldoon Road, where Father Steven Moore will preside. A viewing will be held before the service at 1 p.m. Both Father Moore and St. Patrick's were very important to Ron. Father Moore guided Ron through his conversion and ultimate confirmation. Ron, in turn, as was always his way, was instrumental in the construction fundraising for the church.

Ron was born Nov. 17, 1962, in Grangeville, Idaho. He earned the designation of Eagle Scout and graduated from Grangeville High School. He went on to attend college at the University of Idaho, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting. While at the University of Idaho, Ron pledged and became a member of Delta Chi and ultimately became president of the local chapter and held that position for two years, which was quite unusual.

On July 5, 1986, in Grangeville, he was married to Alicia Haener, his high school sweetheart. Ron and Alicia moved to Alaska in 1986 and have lived continuously in Alaska ever since.

After earning his CPA license in both Alaska and Idaho, Ron began his professional career in Anchorage at Touche Ross, one of the Big 8 international accounting firms of the time. Ron went on to distinguish himself for such firms as Veco and ASRC and then, during what his friends affectionately called "the summer of Ron" (2009), he worked as an independent consultant before recently accepting a position as chief financial officer for Olgoonik Native Corp.

Ron's loving family describes Ron as a "powerful force in the world who touched the lives of so many people." His ready smile was known by all, revealing his fun-loving nature, his happy-go-lucky, optimistic attitude and his unfailing willingness to help anyone. Ron had an almost never-ending ability to make people smile and his attitude about life was highly infectious. Many a person stated that Ron had never met a stranger, and this attribute endeared him to the hearts of many.

Ron was a committed father and husband who made it a point to attend every sporting or school event for his girls.

Ron enjoyed the Alaska outdoors with his buddies, especially snowmachining, hunting and fishing. While doing so, he always tried his best to help earn "fun tickets" along the way. He also enjoyed golfing, racquetball and softball, and he participated in the Tok-to-Dawson ride on several occasions. Ron was one of the founding members of the Pfighting Kurds, a group of very special men and their wives who purport to play softball, but enjoy one another's company and are absolutely and unconditionally committed to supporting one another in every facet of their lives.

Ron volunteered to serve on many philanthropic and nonprofit boards, including most notably the United Way of Alaska, where he and his wife are members of the prestigious Toqueville Society. Ron also served as president of the Wolf Pack club of Lake Louise and the Alaska Rush Soccer Club, which he served as treasurer. There were many other organizations through the years that Ron contributed his time and talents to and they all benefited greatly from his involvement. Ron was honored with the prestigious "Top 40 Before 40," an honor afforded to the most outstanding young businesspeople in Alaska.

Survivors include his loving wife, Alicia; and their three beautiful girls, Anna, Kayla and Kimmy; his mother and stepfather, Barbara and David Wilsey of Lewiston, Idaho; father, Jim and stepmother, Patti of Cheyenne, Wyo.; mother-in-law, Armella Haener of Grangeville, Idaho; stepgrandmother, Wilma Christensen of Cheyenne, Wyo.; brothers, Ryan of Dayton, Wash., and Rick of Winchester, Idaho; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers that a donation be made in Ron's name to the United Way of Anchorage.

Arrangements are with Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel, www.janssenfuneralhomes.com.

I knew Ron in his capacity as the treasurer for the Northern Lights Soccer Club several years ago. I was a fellow board member and board president for several years.

Ron impressed me in several ways. First, the entire board never had to worry about our finances because Ron's steady hand was in control of them. Secondly, whenever we had to deal with a contentious issue, and Ron spoke to it, his opinion would generally carry the day because the rest of us on the board were won over by the clarity and reasonableness of his arguments.

Finally, after I left the board a number of years ago, and to this day, since I serve as the treasurer of another non-profit organization, I refer back to how Ron prepared his monthly treasurer's report as my guidelance for a thorough and accurate presentation.

Ron impressed me also as a very fine dad and husband, and while I didn't know his wife and daughters I always thought how lucky they must be to have a fine man like Ron as their dad and husband. God bless you!

Dear Alici, Anna, Kayla and Kim Please accept my heartfelt sympathy for the loss of your husband and dad. I can not imagine the pain and sorror you feel and the shock of how suddenly he was taken.

Please take care and know your friends and family are there for you, to help make each day a little more bearable, and try to keep your strength up with rest. This will be difficult but your joy of many years of being together will help you along this difficult path.

Ron was a true professional and a remarkable problem solver. Always positive and always the the "good to guy" to get things done "right" the first time. Ron was highly regarded and respected by Val and always loyal and a trusted colleague.
