Ruth Jacobson Obituary

Ruth was born and raised on a small farm north of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, on May 5, 1925. After high school, Ruth went to nursing school and upon graduation headed to Hawaii with a group of friends, where she worked and enjoyed the tropics.
Ruth apparently became bored with the tropics, as she soon found herself in Anchorage, Alaska, in the early 1950s, where she worked for a local doctor and eventually found the man of her dreams, Jack Jacobson. They married and had two sons: Kurt and Chris.
After Jack retired they decided to become snow birds and spent many years hauling their Airstream trailer around the southwest until they stumbled upon the tiny hamlet of Desert Center, Calif. They decided this was the place to spend winter and did so for many years. Summers were spent at their Wasilla Lake home, where Ruth grew beautiful dahlias and enjoyed watching the nesting grebes. When Fred Meyer moved into the area they were forced to sell and they moved to Anchorage. In their early 80s, they were still enjoying summer months at their cabin on the Kenai River. Health issues required Ruth to move in the Anchorage Pioneer Home in 2012, where she lived until passing.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Jack in 2014. She is survived by sons, Kurt (Donna) and Chris (Fran); four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was a wonderful mother and friend and will be greatly missed.

I am Ruth's granddaughter Christina.
Sadly I was unable to be at her service and so I would like to say a few words here. I really enjoyed reading all the wonderful memories and things everyone had to say about my grandma. She was a truly amazing grandma to me all my life. Most of my best childhood memories are of when we were at my grandparents log cabin on Wasilla Lake. My grandma taught me how to do crosswords and I still enjoy them to this day. She made the best chocolate chip cookies which I still cannot replicate, even though I think she just used the recipe on the chocolate chip bag. She had that unique grandma magic that made everything special. I have lots of memories of her playing rummikub and chicken feet with me and my brother before bedtime when we stayed over. She always tried to make things special for us and ensure we had a good time when visiting. I hope to continue my grandmas memory by trying to be as loving, thoughtful, easy going and selfless as she was. Maybe someday I'll be able to make cookies like she did. Love you Grandma. I will truly miss you but never forget you.

Kurt, Kris and your families. I had the good fortune to know your mom and dad in the 50's when my family lived on the opposite corner from you in City View. I remember delivering ADN to your family and baby sitting. I liked your mom and dad very much. I am so sorry for the loss of your mom tho I know she had a very full life and i believe was a good mother to you both.
