Steve Farris Obituary

Steve Farris of Wasilla, Alaska, died in his home surrounded by his family on Jan. 20, 2017. He was 76 years old.
Steve is survived by his wife, Sandy; children, Vince Farris of Whitwell, Tenn., Vic Farris of Wasilla, Alaska, Debbie Farris of Anchorage, Alaska, Stefanie Peterson of Tucson, Ariz., Matt Farris of Tucson, Ariz., and Travis Farris of Ewa Beach, Hawaii; his 14 grandchildren; and his 10 great-grandchildren; he is also survived by his sister, Bonnie Farris of Kingston, Okla.
He was born on Feb. 12, 1940, in Kaw City, Okla., to Kennard and Fay Farris. Steve has been married to Sandy since May 14, 1983.
His children remember him as a driven, brilliant man and a father who encouraged them to pursue their goals. When the children think of their father, they think of fairness and integrity.
In addition to his life long oil field career, Steve was accomplished at woodworking and often turned bowls from local wood. He was a hard-working individual who loved the outdoors and who was passionate about hunting and fishing. He attended Wasilla Christian Church.
Steve passed away peacefully in his home. He will be remembered as a hardworking, trustworthy man dedicated to his family, a great friend to all who knew him.
A Memorial Celebration of Life is scheduled for Feb. 12, 2017, at 2 p.m., at Evangelo's in Wasilla. Please park in back parking lot to enter. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Steve's life.
Memorial donations can be sent to Mat-Su Regional Hospice, 950 East Bogard Road, Suite 132, Wasilla, AK 99654. Words of comfort can be shared with the family at www.alaskacremation.com. Arrangements entrusted to the Cremation Society of Alaska.

I am extremely sorry to hear of Steve's passing.
We both worked together at Schlumberger, again when he moved to BP and again when I moved to BP.
Steve was "wiser than a tree full of owls" in the oil patch and always extremely helpful in difficult situations. 30 yrs of working together.
RIP Steve and God bless you and your family.

Dear Farris Family-I had the privilege and honor to work with Steve on the North Slope. I can so vividly see him sitting at his desk with a big smile on his face, asking what he could do to help. He was such a delight to work with. So intelligent, so kind. What a wonderful human being. He certainly left a very good impression on me. Thank you for sharing Steve with all of us on the North Slope. Respectfully

We have known each other our whole lives. From the old life in Taft, to the new life in Alaska. Hard at first, but wonderful later. Rest in peace my friend.

I did not know Steve personally but I know his daughter, Stephanie. I have often heard a measure of a man is his children and for that reason I know Steve Farris was a good man, and we are lucky he touched us. Rest in Peace Mr. Steve, the world is a better place because you were in it.

I'm sorry for your loss. I had the pleasure hanging out with Steve a handful of times as the "adopted random guy" of the family and appreciated his humor. He'll be missed.

Steve and I were hired with SOHIO as alternates in the summer of 1980. He was a wealth of knowledge and all around good guy. He will be greatly missed. RIP "Laddie"

My heartfelt sympathy to the family. May you find strenght in the God of all comfort to get through this difficult time

January 25, 2017

From my arrival in Alaska in 1979, Steve was an oilfield co-worker, a best friend, and like a big brother to me and likewise later to my wife Monique. He even opened his own family to us. When we left Alaska in 1999 I didn't stay in touch figuring distance and time would ease the sadness of separation. I know now I was wrong and I apologize. I should have stayed in touch. Our condolences to all the family. Rest in Peace Bro - Roddy and Monique Bachman
