William Schick Obituary

William (Bill) Schick, 72, died at home on June 6, 2015, while preparing to watch the 2nd Stanley Cup game with his wife, Jacqueline Kirley, and visiting friends. He had been in hospice care for cancer since February. Bill was born in Chicago on August 17, 1942, but was raised in La Porte, Indiana, by his mother and grandmother. His father, Dr. William R. Schick, was the first US flight medical officer killed in WW II when his plane, traveling to the Philippines, flew into the Japanese bombing attack at Pearl Harbor. Bill attended Johns Hopkins University and studied accounting at DePaul University. He spent most of his career in the Treasurer's Office at the Stewart Warner Company in Chicago. Following that, he worked as a trustee. Bill's love of jazz and classical music began early. His interest in art, food, wine, and spirits developed over a lifetime. Bill is remembered for his quick wit, extensive reading, pleasure in golfing while at the Michigan cottage, and interest in train travel. He was a steadfast friend. He is survived by his wife, several cousins, and a host of friends. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 27, from 2 - 5 at the Logan Center for the Arts.
