Xanthia Nagata Obituary

Xanthia "Carol" Nagata, 71, died Dec. 4, 2007, at home, surrounded by her family. She was diagnosed with lung and breast cancer in September.
A celebration of Carol's life will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at American Legion Jack Henry Post 1, 840 W. Fireweed Lane. Her ashes will be placed in the Columbarium Wall at Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, her birthday.
Carol was born Dec. 13, 1935, in Portland, Ore., to Anton and Hulda (Hansen) Carlson. She was the youngest of eight children. She attended Whitaker Elementary in Portland and graduated from North Bend High School in 1954. She attended Monmouth College for two years in Monmouth, Ore. Carol's first job was with First National Bank in Coos Bay, Ore., where she worked for four years.
Carol headed to Anchorage in 1961, driving the Alaska Highway by herself. She immediately started working for First National Bank of Anchorage.

Carol married Thomas Nagata in 1970. They had two daughters, Liane and Carel.
She was a member of the Anchorage Emblem Club and American Legion Auxiliary, Jack Henry Post 1 for 44 years. She bowled on several leagues and received a trophy for a high game of 276. Carol was a Seattle Mariners and Seattle Seahawks fan.
"Carol made friends everywhere she went," her family wrote. "She had a social personality and loved meeting people. She was a selfless mother and grandmother and truly cared for those in her life. She was very involved with her grandchildren, Maile 14, Lauren 10, and Madalyn 4. Over the years, Carol developed a love of life with her granddaugthers. Carol was everyone's friend and will be missed by all."

Carol was so full of life at all times. Always willing to help or give what was necessary. You did not even have to ask. She will be missed by more than just her family. Her red curly hair, ready smile, freckles, sparkling eyes.

Liane and Family,
Although I never met Carol, I feel as though I have, through you and Carel. Her adventurous spirit, vivacious personality and love of life is evident in you both. I hope the happy memories of her life will soon replace the sadness of losing her. I am very sorry for your loss and you all are in my thoughts.

I dropped by because I was wondering, with a name like Xanthia, if she was of Greek heritage. She wasn't, but that's OK! I really enjoyed reading about this adventurous lady's life! I'm sure her loss will be felt for a long time, and my prayers are with you all that terrific memories will go with the grief of losing your wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
