Henry Richard (Rick) Pollard III passed away on Dec. 30, 2021, at the age of 70.
Rick was born and raised in Knoxville and had lived in Sweetwater since 1993.
Rick had a wonderful childhood with his parents, sister, grandparents, cousins, and friends. He enjoyed recounting their many adventures together: camping trips to Cades Cove, beach trips, horseback riding, ball games, and school activities.
He graduated from Doyle High School in 1969, where he played on the 1968 county champion football team and ran track. He attended East Tennessee State University, where he joined Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and made many lifelong friends. He received his bachelor's degree in political science in 1975 and went to work for the Tennessee Department of Human Services. He obtained his master's degree in social work from the University of Tennessee Knoxville in 1983. He worked as an alcohol and drug abuse counselor for many years.
Rick served for 10 years in the Army National Guard and was involved in community and political work in Knoxville.
He and his wife, Becky, moved to Sweetwater, where they started Pollard & Associates, a Social Security disability representation business. He had that company for 23 years.
He was a lifelong student of history and loved music, Tennessee sports, and trying new foods.
He had a vast knowledge of singer-songwriters and could identify many obscure songs by a single note. He and fellow musician friends formed a bluegrass band, The Blue Mooners. They played bars, charity events, and functions throughout the region.
Rick always had a sweet smile and wonderful disposition.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Henry Richard Pollard Jr. and Nadine Nichols Pollard; nephew, Paul Koger; and cousins, Lance Fear and Ted Fear.
