Ruby Irene Walton

1922 - 2017

Ruby Irene Walton went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, September 29, 2017, at the age of 95. Ruby was born in Akron, Colorado on April 19, 1922 to parents, Lee Roy and Mary (Allen) Grooms.
She was raised in Akron, attended country school, completing seventh and eighth grade in one year and graduated from Akron High School in 1939. Ruby spent most of her childhood summers at her Grandpa and Grandma Groom's helping on the farm.
Ruby started working at an early age at Dot's Beauty Shop, cleaning in exchange for an occasional perm. She worked at Wash Brother's Grocery throughout high school.
Ruby married Bernard Walton on May 23, 1939, in Sterling, Colorado. To this union three children were born: two sons, Carroll Lavern and Marvin Leroy, and daughter, Mary Marlene.
Ruby had a very active life, raising her children and making her home open to family and friends. She served as a 4-H leader for 10 years. Ruby and Bernard farmed and ranched in Akron and were involved in the cattle industry. In 1960, the family exhibited the Grand Champion Polled Hereford at the national show in Chicago.
1967 was a difficult year as Ruby lost her father in March and her son, Carroll, and daughter-in law, Timi in June. It was at this time she needed something to believe in. After moving to Fort Morgan, Ruby accepted Jesus as her savior in 1971. She served as the kitchen manager at Calvary Baptist Church in Fort Morgan for several years. She had a passion for people in need.
She moved to Kerrville, Texas in 1994 and again became active in her church. She served as an Awana leader for third and fourth grade girls for six years. During this time, she joined BSF (Bible Study Fellowship) and was a discussion leader for five years.
At the age of 80, she obtained her CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) license to be able to help at the rest home.
Throughout her life she enjoyed entertaining family and friends. She adored her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren and leaves them with years of fond and loving memories.
Survivors include her son, Marvin Walton and wife, Marian of Hereford, Texas; and daughter, Marlene Anderson of Kerrville, Texas; a sister, Marjorie Thompson and her husband Jack of Greeley, Colorado; granddaughters, Laura Lee Ehlers and husband, Brent of Greeley, Colorado, Tonya Thomas and Wendy Groves of Abilene, Texas, Wendy Lacina and husband, Tony of Amarillo, Texas and Tosha Dunham and husband, Daren of Keenesburg, Colorado; great-grandchildren, Rafe and Ryanne Ehlers, Tad and wife, Leigh and Seth and wife, Monica Thomas, True and Tyce Lacina, Tearsa and husband, Timmy Martinez and Cord Dunham; great-great grandchildren, Blaze and Stone Thomas, London Dunham, and Ryatt and Ruby (Ruby's namesake) Martinez.
Preceding her in death were an infant sister, Vina; her son, Carroll; and her husband, Bernard. She is survived by a large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins and many loving friends.
Funeral services and a celebration of life will be held Thursday, October 5th, at Foursquare Church in Akron at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made "In Loving Memory of Ruby Walton, to Dementia Care Advocates, Dietert Center, 451 Guadalupe Street, Kerrville, TX 78028.
