Chief Ferguson was instrumental to changing my life. He was RAPCON Chief Controller @ Holloman. I was an enlisted, E-4 air traffic controller in the Control Tower. I was recently divorced, but I had finished my BS degree & was going to get out of the Air Force. Chief Ferguson & I had become friends, often played pool at Jack's Bar in Alamogordo. Chief asked me one night what I planned to do. I told him I was going to get out & return to Florida to work as a Wildlife Officer. He told me I was better than that, directed me to formal training @ Personnel to apply for a direct commission as I already had my degree. To make a long story short, I applied & was accepted to Officer Training School (OTS). It was November 1974, & I departed for OTS @ Lackland AFB in January 1975. I graduated a 2nd Lt in May 1975, with honors. I attained the rank of Major prior to my retirement in 1989. I was an enlisted Air Traffic Controller, Crew Chief in multiple control towers, RAPCON Crew Chief, Chief, Air Traffic Control Ooerations at 4 USAF bases, Air Traffic Control Staff Officer, HQ USAFE in Europe, Allied Air Forces Central Europe ATC Tactical Evaluator, ATC Liaison to the Italian Air Staff in Rone Italy, Base level Airspace Manager. Chief Ferguson was my hero. I owe my life, my career to him & his influence. I am 77 years old now, have cancer but needed to post this to the greatest Air Traffic Controller & friend I ever had. We will all miss Mr. Ferguson as he was a very thoughtful and strong spoken supporter of the VFW and the community. One of his best legacies is leaving us Dave a fine man and great Quartermaster.
He will be deeply missed by all.

Dearest Sandra-
I was very sad to learn of the loss of your precious husband, Jim. When someone you love dies, it leaves an empty spot in your heart which could never be filled by any other person. Soon, in a new world of god's making, all pain, sickness and suffering will be gone forever. Until then, I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
