Michael James Calkins

1955 - 2018

Michael Calkins, 62, passed away on April 20, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born on December 23, 1955 in Orlando, Florida to Harold and Lucille Calkins.
Mr. Calkins was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He worked at White Sands Missile Range for over 40 years where he was Section Chief for Electronic Services, Transmission Division, Information Management Directorate. He was an avid drummer and singer. He was a biker and enjoyed golf. He was a member of the BPO Elks, Lodge #1897 and American Legion, Post 34.
Survivors include his wife, Penny Calkins of the family home; three daughters, Nicole (Ronald) Bailey of Las Cruces, NM, Kelly Rose Cheatwood of Alamogordo, NM and Amanda Malejko of Vancouver, WA; three grandsons, Randy Bailey, Gavin Cheatwood, Jaxon Cowden and brother, Steven Calkins of College Station, TX;
He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Lucille Calkins and son, Corey Mace.
The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 pm on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Michael Calkins will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home with his brother-in-law, Robert A. Keith, officiating.
Burial will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Holloman Air Force Base Steel Talons Honor Guard at 2:30 pm.
Pallbearers include Steve Calkins, Max Bringhurst, Jeffery Willett, Ron Bailey, Don Georgeons, Jeff Katzenbach.
Should friends desire, contributions may be made to Mike's grandsons' trust for their education.
The Calkins family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
