Robert Sanchez Obituary
Mr. Sanchez was born Aug. 27, 1941, to Ramon and Catarina Sanchez in Loving.
He was a 1961 graduate of Carlsbad High School. He served in the Vietnam War with the Army from 1964 until 1966. Upon returning to Carlsbad he worked in the Potash Mines for more than 30 years. He married Albina Payanes March 13, 1965, in Carlsbad.
He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and also a member of San Jose Catholic Church. He called bingo for many years. Robert was an avid gardener and loved spending time with his family. He loved bowling and was competitive. For many years he went camping and hunting with his brothers and family. He loved playing cards, especially poker, and loved even more teaching his family how to play.
Robert was known for coming up with a special nickname for everyone in the family. He was known for his wonderful sense of humor. He never met a stranger.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife: Albina of Carlsbad; children, Robert Sanchez Jr. and wife Betty of Carlsbad, Terry and Frank Huereque of Ridgecrest, Calif., Lisa and Ralph Morales of Ruidoso, Martha and Larry McKinney from Eugene, Ore., Margarita Sanchez from Los Angeles, Calif., Christina and Kris Haagenson of Albuquerque, Cynthia Sanchez and Albert Madrid of Carlsbad; John Montez Jr., a grandson he helped raise, of Ridgecrest, Calif.; 27 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, four brothers and five sisters.
Visitation will be on Sunday, June 15, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel, and from 6 p.m. until time for the Rosary at 7 p.m. Sunday, June 15, at San Jose Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 16, at San Jose Catholic Church with Father Valentine Jankowski, officiating. Interment will follow at Carlsbad Cemetery with Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard providing full military honors.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Alvina and Family I know it is never easy to give up our treasures of family and friends.I can only tell you at this difficult time you are greatly loved.
Robert was so much fun and had a great sense of humor that I will miss very much. He was great at helping people find a seat at Mass. When I was running late with the children he helped me many times. The faces he could make and the animation made him a character we all enjoyed.
For your loss I am truly sorry. And I am thankful for the blessing of knowing such a wonderful family.
