Sally Marsh Obituary

Sally Ann Marsh, 86, died on June 9, 2014, at her home in Las Cruces.

Sally was born to Elza White Jr. and Tinnie Mae Knighton White, in Roswell on Dec. 25, 1927. Shortly after her birth, her mother died, leaving Sally and her brother to be raised by their father, Elza, her aunt, Mary White, and her paternal grandparents.
They moved from their home in Roswell to their summer home outside of Mayhill where Sally and her older brother, Elza White III, traveled on horseback two miles to the Cox Canyon one-room grade school every weekday. Sally's grandfather later donated a portion of that land to the Girl Scouts for developing a camp named in honor of her Aunt Mary. The camp, which is still known today as Camp Mary White, was the first Girl Scout camp in New Mexico.
Sally went on to attend Cloudcroft High School for three years, then moved with her aunt to Tucson, Ariz., where she graduated from Tucson High School in 1945. She entered the University of Arizona where she was a member of the K.A.O. Sorority. After graduation she went to work as a stewardess with American Airlines out of Nashville, Tenn.
Sally met her husband of 64 ½ years, Jack Sterling Marsh, while on a vacation during a trip home to New Mexico. They married on Nov. 29, 1949, at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church in Las Cruces. Sally and Jack lived in Bartlesville, Okla., for a while and returned to White Sands Missile Range where Jack worked prior to their wedding, before finally settling in Las Cruces and raising their family.
Sally was an avid golfer, gardener and an accomplished artist. She loved painting and took many instructional art classes. She entered many art shows and won several awards. Sally was involved with the Picacho Hills Country Club, helping to organize the club's women's golf association and form the club's Wednesday bridge group. She was particularly proud of scoring a hole-in-one at the very same golf course.
Sally was very supportive of animal rights and leaves behind several dogs and cats that she loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother.

She is survived by her beloved husband and three children: Mary Lorraine Marsh Vogel, Louis Sterling Marsh and Jo Anne Marsh; seven grandchildren: Melissa Marsh, Christopher Vogel, Michael Vogel, Jacqueline Vogel Matheney, Joshua Vogel, Mason Marsh and Kelly Marsh; and four great-grandchildren: Neva Matheney, Olive Matheney, Ryan Vogel, and June Vogel.

Sally's remains will be returned to the family ranch in the Sacramento Mountains where a private family service will be held.

Arrangements were entrusted to La Paz - Grahams Funeral Home.
