John Ricks Obituary

John J. Ricks, Sr., 94, of Putney, GA, passed away February 13, 2025. He was born on March 5, 1930, in Sale City, GA, to the late Henry and Eunice Ricks.

He is preceded in death by his siblings, Marie (Charles) Bennett, Viola (Owen) Vaughn, Earl (Jo) Ricks, Esther (GC) Anglin, and Clayton (Mary Alice) Ricks.

He is survived by his children, Earl (Dona), Johnny (Cindy), Kathy (Nicki), and Andy (Suzanne), five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, his sister Annie Laura (Ann) Rexroat, and many nieces and nephews.

John was a man of many experiences. He worked farms with his family, ran a rolling store, and worked as a maintenance machinist for Gravely Tractor, Lykes Meat Packing, and Daniel Construction at Proctor & Gamble. He loved his work and church families; and was well known as an avid fisherman, cook and gardener. John loved to tell tales of his many fishing trips, all the different machine parts that he made, and the various problems he was able to solve at work and home. He was an amazing man and accomplished all these things with only a 9th Grade education!

Services will be held at Evergreen Baptist Church at 1690 Evergreen Road, Sylvester, GA 31791 on March 15, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. with Todd Brooks and Danny Evans officiating.
