Angelita Cantu Porter Freer, TX - Angelita Cantu Porter, 77 years of age, gained her wings on Friday, June 4, 2021 in a Corpus Christi hospital after a long illness. She was born in Benavides, Texas on November 8, 1943 to her parents, Alonzo and Anita Cantu. She was member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the President of the Altar and Rosary Society, and also served as a school board member for Freer ISD and also served as a board member of the Freer water district for 25 years. She was a beautician and owner of Angelita's Beauty Shop for 50 years. She loved spending time with her fur baby, Mandy and family. She enjoyed making floral arrangements, crafts, dancing, and music. She was a loving sister, aunt and great aunt who will be sadly missed by all her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alonzo and Anita Cantu; two brothers, Alonzo and Manuel Cantu Angelita is survived by her two brothers, Alonzo (Aurora) Cantu Jr. and Arturo Cantu both of Freer, Texas; two sisters, Hortencia C. (Servando) Lopez and Eufemia Saenz both of Freer, Texas; four nieces, Cathy (Daniel) Ramirez, Gilda (David) Montalvo, Glinda Lopez, Annie (Erik) Helms; and three nephews, A.D. Saenz, Alonzo (Mary Alice) Cantu, Freddy (Ruby) Cantu; 14 great nieces and nephews; one great great niece. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic we will be following all CDC and Government mandates and ask each guest to do so as well. We ask everyone to follow social distancing and wear masks inside the funeral home and church. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at Garza Funeral Home in Freer, Texas with a Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Freer, Texas. Interment will follow at the Buena Vista Cemetery in La Rosita, Texas. The family would like to give special thanks to her caregiver, Maria Mondragon for all her years of caring for Angelita and Mandy.
