1958 - 2023

ELIZABETH "LIZ" RAMON SANDIA, TEXAS - On August 11, 2023, at the age of 64 years old, Elizabeth "Liz" Ramon made her journey to her eternal beginning. Liz was born August 20, 1958, in Mathis, Texas to Federico and Elvira Ortiz. She was the 8th child out of 12. She grew up on a farm, completing chores such as feeding farm animals or helping with crops before going off to school. Liz was a 1977 graduate of Orange Grove High School. She was an active participant in volleyball, basketball, tennis, pep squad, FHA and JWC Fair. She married her high school sweetheart Ray and they began their life as a couple, parents and grandparents. Liz was a monumental part of her family's lives-immediate and extended. Many would come to her for advice or merely for her to listen to whatever was burdening them. She could be outside for hours, often times her family would find her still tending to her plants in the moonlight or simply sitting on a bench enjoying what our glorious God had to offer. Her greatest joy was clearly her grandchildren - teaching them her own little pieces of life's wonders. Many looked to her for direction when it came time to making plans for get-togethers. Her home became the heart of gatherings, filling with memories of laughter and tears all in one. As in her very own words to her grandchildren, "Don't forget about me..." We will never forget, and we will always remember the astounding woman Liz was. She was preceded in death by her parents: Federico and Elvira Ortiz, parents-in-law: Jesus and Jacinta Ramon, her husband: Ray Ramon, brother: Federico Ortiz Jr, sister-in-law: Mandy Ortiz, brothers-in-law: Zeferino Garcia Jr. and Bobby Rivera, and niece: Cindy Vasquez. She is survived by her two children: Matthew Ramon and Jennifer (Ernest) Hinojosa, her grandchildren: Anthony, Mia and Issac Hinojosa, and her siblings: Maggie (Tom) Vasquez, Celia (Ruben) Barrientes, Armando (Yole) Ortiz, Blas (Maria) Ortiz, Gilbert (Minga) Ortiz, Belin Rivera, Adan (Viola) Ortiz, Richard (Victoria) Ortiz, Victor Ortiz, Sammy (Jill) Ortiz & Debbie Ortiz and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. The family will receive friends and relatives Saturday, September 2, 2023, at 9:30 a.m. at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church of Orange Grove. A Holy Rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. with a Funeral Mass to follow. Services will conclude at the church.
