ISABEL VELA ORTIZ
Isabel Vela Ortiz, 59 years of age, passed away on October 20, 2024. She was a loving mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She was a native of Odem, Texas and had been residing in Orange Grove for the past 36 years. Isabel was born on August 18, 1965, in Sinton, Texas, to her parents, Ignacio and Gregoria Davila Vela. She proudly achieved her education as a graduate of Odem High School. Isabel worked as a Tupperware distributor while also enjoying couponing as a hobby. Isabel was involved in everything she could be when it came to family and sports. She never missed a game and supported win or loss. From powerlifting meets to softball games to BJJ /competition to football games, she was there with a smile on her face and love in her heart.
She had a particular fondness for owls, which added to her unique character. Isabel loved the various holidays throughout the year and could consistently be found decorating for each celebration. Besides decorating for her favorite holidays, she enjoyed reading books by Danielle Steele, as well as watching her Spanish novelas. She was genuinely a natural caregiver at heart, always ensuring that she kept in touch with the children and grandchildren in her family, taking great joy in their lives and accomplishments. She was involved and cared for every matter in the Ortiz household, and she will be dearly missed.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ignacio and Gregoria D. Vela, and a son, Oscar Ortiz Jr.
Survivors include her beloved husband, Oscar R. Ortiz Sr. of Orange Grove, Texas; four sons, Jesse (Shelly) Ortiz, Danny Lee Ortiz, Oscar Octavio Ortiz all of Orange Grove, Texas and Tony (Debra) Ortiz of Robstown, Texas; two brothers, Ignacio (Sabrina) Vela Jr. and Tommy (Melissa) Vela both of Odem, Texas; five sisters, Yolanda (Tony) Lopez, Inez ( J. Morin) Torres, Irene (Eloy) Beltran, Delia (Juan) Santellana all of Odem, Texas and Mary Ann Vela of Sinton Texas; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends and relatives at 5:00 pm on Sunday October 27, 2024, at Rosas Funeral Home with a Holy Rosary being recited at 7:00 pm that evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Monday October 28, 2024, at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church of Orange Grove, Texas. A burial will follow at Casa Blanca Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Oscar Israel Ortiz, Landon Ortiz, Grant Ortiz, Tony Ortiz, Danny Ortiz, Billy Joe Hernandez, Clemente Narvaiz and Richie Lopez.
