Barry McCall Obituary

Barry Laine McCall, 62, of Lake Charles, La., passed away at his residence on March 11, 2019. A life-long resident of Lake Charles, Barry was born on Oct. 13, 1956, in Jennings, La., to Harley and Alberta Dehart McCall.
Barry worked as an electrician at Firestone Polymers for over 40 years and was a longtime member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. He was the backbone of the bus and children's ministry as he reached out to children of all ages and back grounds. He also served as Deacon at the church for over 30 years.
Barry was the founder and operator of KELB and KEBL, Southern Gospel Christian Radio station, "Eternal Life Broadcasting." He was also an avid ham radio operator. He was a founding member and treasurer of the Southwest Louisiana O Gauge Model Railroad Club. Barry was a "Jack of All Trades," willing to work on anything and help anyone who needed him.
More than any of these activities, the thing he loved more than anything else was spending time with his wife, his children and his grandchildren.
Barry was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Tom McCall.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 40 years, Karen Stephenson McCall; his two daughters, Ashli (Kordell) Nolan and Kimberly Anderson McCall. He also leaves his grandchildren, Kylan Alexander, Hadleigh Anderson, Zane Nolan and Ava Nolan. He also leaves his sister, Jackie (Steve) Hunt; and his brother, Darryl McCall; and his sister-in-law, Carol McCall; along with numerous, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends at Emmanuel Baptist Church on Thursday, March 14, 2019, from 5-9 p.m. and then continuing at the church from 9-11 a.m. on Friday, March 15, 2019. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. officiated by Dr. Michael Shamblin and Dr. Andy Buckley. Burial will follow at Prien Memorial Gardens under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.

I am one of Barry's nieces. He fondly referred to me as TaraLynn when I was growing up and that name stuck with me into adulthood. I have a million memories of Barry and feel so blessed to have had the good fortune of spending some of my most cherished childhood memories with him and my dearest aunt Karen. I had many of my firsts with Barry, including playing putt putt, riding a roller coaster (and the Sky Screamer), driving a go-cart and so many more. He was the first person to allow me to drive a car and operate the gear shift on the church bus (at far too young of an age) :) Mostly, I knew that I could always count on him for some absurdly hilarious moments! He was reliable in raising the fun factor during family holiday gatherings and summer vacations. He was the kindest and most genuine man. I will miss him dearly, but I know that his light will always shine in Karen and Ashley and Kimberly and his grandchildren. His is the kind of light that never goes dim. I am sending all of my Love to you, Karen and Ashley and Kimberly. How I wish I could be there to share in this most confusing and difficult time with you. Praying for God's peace.

I am a Tower Climber out of New Orleans and I came across this on Facebook. It's never easy to hear about tower incedents such as this as this is a career for me. I hope he watches over us climbers and my deepest sorry for your loss. I read about him and he seemed to be a great man. Your family is now in my family's prayers.

Dearest Karen,
I'll always remember Barry as such a kind, gentle man. I'm so very sorry for your loss.
(You may not remember me, but my last name Rogers back when I knew you and when I went to Emmanuel. I was friends with Janice and Keitha....grew up next door to them).
You and Barry were always the sweetest couple and your girls were so adorable. I'll be praying for you and your family.

Oh the wonderful memories of such a life-loving guy. My involvement with Barry was from my childhood, church and through my uncles and aunt who were close to him. Ive been gone from Lake Charles over 30 years now so missed being around him other than our time we served as pallbearers for a common Sunday school teacher that we admired. My thoughts and prayers for Karen, his daughters, grandchildren, sister, brother, sister in law, nieces and nephews and many friends.

I was so sad to hear the passing of Barry. He and I had a close friendship during our teen years and kept in touch during those years. then life turned to marriages, children and grandchildren and we loss touch but I cherish the years of closeness. prayers, thoughts and love with your family during this time of sorrow. My pray is that as days turn into weeks, weeks into months and months into years your tears will turn into smiles and then into laughter as you remember the fun and happiness you shared as a family.
My papaw Earl McCall and Harley were brothers!!
