James Coltrin Obituary

James Russell Coltrin, age 76, came into this world on January 3, 1945. He was born to Jesse and Francis Coltrin. He is survived by his daughter, Kellie Cross and husband, Darin as well as their two children, McKenna and Brennan Cross; his son, Kip Coltrin of Sulphur; as well as his two brothers, William and Jesse Coltrin; and preceded in death by brother, Ray Coltrin and sister, Elizabeth "Pan" Mouton. Jim crossed over to the Big Ranch with cattle on a thousand hills on June 30, 2021.

Jim "Diamond Jim" as he was often referred to was an electrician with IBEW Local 861 of Lake Charles, Louisiana. He was a Cowboy's Cowboy and member of the American Quarter Horse Association. The way he lived his life, working cows, and riding good horses, proved that he found beauty in the simple things- a field of hay, a patch of rye grass, watching a good horse work, or even a field of cattle bunching up for an impending storm... These things brought him joy for which words cannot describe...

On any given day he could be found at the ranch, the local waterhole, and of course some of the toughest terrain God put between the Gulf of Mexico to Interstate 10 (part of the former Outlaw Strip), you guessed it, Doing Cowboy Stuff! He was a friend to many, a Cowboy Comedian, and often the life of the Party! He did what many will only ever dream about. He lived free, on his own terms...

Upon his passing he was reunited with so many of his friends who've gone before him, as well as family. Yes, "By God Woodrow, It's been one Hell of A Party!" His service will not be a time to mourn, but instead A Celebration of a Life well Lived!

Family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. until time of service on Sunday, July 4, 2021 at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home with a Rosary beginning at 4:40 p.m.

A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 5:00 p.m. in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Chapel. Celebrant, Jody Barrilleaux will lead services.
