John Wright Obituary

LTC John Ben Wright, D.D.S., a.k.a., "Dr. J.B.", passed away on February 19, 2021 at Christus Saint Patrick Hospital in Lake Charles.
John Ben was born in Houston, Texas on August 5, 1941 to Harold Douglas Wright and Esther Duke Wright, both preceding him in death. He was also preceded in death by his two younger brothers, William Douglas "Billy Doug" Wright, and Terrell Leigh Wright. He is survived by his wife of thirty-five years, Shelly Fholer Wright; his children, John Ben Wright II and Kimberly Wright Anthony; their mother, Wanda Castleman Dalby, and grandsons, Julian Wright and Justin Lauer Wright, as well as, numerous cousins, friends and family in Texas and Louisiana.
John Ben attended the Holy Cross High School in New Orleans, Louisiana, and eventually went on to attend Loyola University. He then studied dentistry at Loyola School of Dentistry and leaves behind several close friends from his time there. ,John Ben served his country through military service throughout his life. After graduating from dental school in 1966, he Joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in the islands of the Azores, Portugal where both of his children were born. After his time in the Air Force, he returned to Louisiana with his family and opened a private practice in Bell Chase, Louisiana. After several years there he again joined the armed forces, serving many years as a dentist in the Army. During his time in the Army, he continued his education to specialize in dental prosthetics. Eventually John Ben retired as a Lieutenant Colonel at which time he went on to continue practicing dentistry for the U.S. Government in other locations, including the Choctaw Nation Reservation in Talihina Oklahoma. John Ben truly loved being a dentist and left behind many patients as well as dental assistants who will also grieve his loss.
Memorial services with military honors will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, March 05, 2021 at University Baptist Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation Friday will be from 12:00 PM until the time of service in the church.
