Janice Irving
Ames - Janice was born on July 2, 1937 to May Ryg Hines and William D. Hines and passed away on April 3, 2021. She attended Ames Public Schools and graduated in 1955.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at the Ames Municipal Cemetery with Pastor Ryan Arnold officiating. Burial will be in the Ames Municipal Cemetery.
She was married to Gordon Max Irving on November 10, 1956 and relocated to Fayetteville, North Carolina where Max served with the 82nd Airborne Division, U.S. Army.
Their son, Gordon William "Billy" was born in 1957.
During their marriage, Jan and Max lived in California, Arizona, and settled in New Mexico where they resided until their retirement in 1997. They enjoyed travel and visited all 50 states and several countries, including Norway, the birthplace of Janice's grandparents.
Janice felt a deep compassion for children of impoverished countries and sponsored many through Plan International for nearly 60 years. She helped to not only provide an education to the children, but improved the lives of their families with better nutrition, clean water, and immunizations.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Max; son, Billy; parents, May and Bill Hines; and nephew, Allen Stephens.
Janice is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Colleen and Peter Kirkegaard; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Adams Funeral Home and online condolences may be left for Janice's family at www.adamssoderstrum.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to Plan International USA, 155 Plan Way, Warwick, RI 02886.
