Joseph Kerr Obituary
Joseph Justin Kerr was born January 22, 1975 in Lakeview, Oregon and died March 14, 2021 in Boone, Iowa after a long struggle with diabetes. He grew up in Lakeview where he was active in the 4-H program, swim team, and church youth groups. Joe also was a puppy raiser for Guide Dogs for the Blind. Joe was homeschooled and attended grade school at Beth-Zur Christian School in Lakeview.
He graduated from Lakeview High School in 1994. He was a long-haul truck driver for many years and he crisscrossed the United States many times until health issues forced his retirement. In recent years he worked as a mechanic for various car dealers in Iowa.
Joe loved music and singing. He enjoyed participating in numerous community musicals, singing for weddings, funerals, and church special occasions. He toured with the Continental Singers in 1994. Joe always remembered family birthdays and would joyously sing happy birthday over the phone to the celebrant.
Joe met and married the love of his life, Karen Wisner, in Boone, Iowa on December 15, 2016. They shared their faith in Jesus Christ with members of Berean Baptist Church in Boone.
Joe is survived by his wife Karen; son Jacob Cannon and daughter Marianne Kerr; his parents Roy and Phyllis Kerr; sisters Jacque (Mark) Emley, and Judi (Ted) Hasse; brother Jaime (Mary) Kerr; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
A commemorative service will take place at 10:30 a.m. on March 24, 2021 in Boone, Iowa at the Berean Baptist Church, and a memorial will be established at the church in his honor. A visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at the Berean Baptist Church in Boone. Joe and Karen have been very special friends to us. Calling us "mom and dad", Joe called us every other week or so. I loved playing for Joe when he sang specials at church. He always gave it all he had. We miss him but know he is in a far better place.
