Mary Frey
With her husband by her side, Mary D. Frey 73, passed away June 17, 2021 at the Households of Bethany in Story City, Iowa. A private family service will be held at a later date.
Mary was born September 19, 1947 to Raymond and Marilyn (Nyght) Metzger of Grand Junction, Iowa. At age 9, Mary lost her Father to Cancer. Her mother married Elmer Perkins, and to this union Mary's brother, Allen and sister, Lynn were born
Mary Graduated from Nevada Hugh School in 1965. She married Perry Frey April 4. 1966 and they made their home in Roland, Iowa for 10 years. During this time Mary worked at General Telephone, Roland State Bank and ISU. At ISU Mary worked at Central Stores, the Small Animal Veterinary Clinic and Biomedical Engineering.
Mary left the University in 1970 to raise their daughters, Stacey and Stephanie. While at home she started writing a column for the Roland Record about her home life. The led to a job as copy writer, sales and editor. After the paper was sold, Mary worked as a reporter for the Story City Herald.
On their tenth wedding anniversary, Perry and Mary moved their family to Story City, Iowa. Mary worked at home until Stacey and Stephanie started school. Then she worked at Harlen's Food Mart, Egnes Insurance and the Story City Hospital. Dr. Robert Larson hired Mary away from the hospital and she worked her favorite job until Doc retired.
Mary then went to at McFarland Clinic as a medical coder. She left McFarland to work the front desk at Pork Tech.
At home Mary was an artist, photographer and gardener. She specialized in Christmas art.
Mary will be missed by her husband Perry, her daughters Stacey Frey, Story City and Stephanie (Ed) Perko, Hudson,OH and her brother Allen (Kelly) Perkins and her nieces Sara and Joycelen.
Mary was proceeded in death by her parents and sister.
The family asks that memorials be made to the Bethany Life Foundation in leu of flowers.
Soderstrum Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
